View Full Version : How Much of a REWARD would you Offer?
FOREVER A DAXIE

I was reading an article today in my local paper and the Owner of a Mini Dachsie who went missing has posted a $2,000 for the return of him. (Actually it is her Dad who posted the reward)
It got me to thinking about how much I would offer to get Charlie back. God forbid it ever happens and hopefully it would NEVER.
I work part-time and have two school aged kids etc. So my finances are likely different than a lot of other members. My husband and I were talking about it this morning and he said we could offer $1000. Then I pouted because geez, he's part of our family, only a $1000 I whined. He said I have to be realistic. Well I'm still mad. This is all Hypothetical so I don't know why I'm mad at my husband. But Charlie to me is priceless but I guess there is a limit.

Boy that is a hard question. As much (probably more) as we could afford. My husband would be the one that would take the realistic side here. But, God forbid if Dudley was missing he would be the first to up the reward. No matter what he says now.

Well, I'd love to be able to offer $2000 or more - my babies are definitely worth that to me. However, realistically, the most our family could currently go is about $500-$1000. Sad. :(

As much as I could afford! We had a situation in the town I used to live in with a woman who was a backyard breeder of French Bulldogs(another breed I love). Someone stole the dog out of her yard and then returned it when a reward was offered. The police said sometimes people on drugs will do that to get drug money. Forutnately the dog was returned safely and she has learned to be more careful with her dogs.

MY husband and I were joking about how if the dogs kept misbehaving, "we'll have to sell them!!"
Then I said, well, of course we would never sell them for any amount of money... and he said,
"Not even for a million dollars?"
"For a million dollars each to a good home?"
:cussing:
He said it was hypothetical, since no one was going to offer a million dollars each for two wild dachshunds. I got mad and said we do NOT sell our children.:grrr:
Even Cassie.
Even Cassie when she whines at 5:30 AM.

That's funny Kim.
Well, I'm over pouting. My husband is off the hook. We never tries to escape - but you never know. I don't want to find out.
I say $2000+ but don't know if my husband would agree, LOL

Well in a way I'm opposed to offering cash rewards at least the publishing of such offers. It's a sad statement about our society but it this were to become common place I fear we would see a big increase in missing dogs as people look for a fast way to make a buck. Now offering a reward to someone who returns a dog or plays a key role in it's recovery is another matter. In fact I would support the idea that if you have an animal get lost and they are recovered by animal control don't gripe about the fine you will most likely have to pay instead make an additional donation to the shelter to thank them for helping to recover your little one.

Return my dog & I will give you a husband in exchange.:fierce:
If I found someone's dog, I would certainly not need a reward to return it!!! I would love to return a lost dog to its owners... unless I found out they abused it or neglected it.

Good Point Tom, about the way society could go. But then again the 'thief' would have to count on you posting such a reward and more times than not it isn't offered.
Speaking about Lost dogs being returned/found by the SPCA and so on. That is personally how I prefer to run the Licensing. ie: There is a Fine for a Lost/Recovered dog etc. But then AGAIN, some horrible people wouldn't pay the fee and we know what happens to the dog. It's a no win situation sometimes.

I would offer up to $1000 for any of my dogs, not just the dachsies. And I know my friends would chip in since I don't have a hubby, so I feel safe saying that amount.
I have found lost dogs and been offered a reward and have always turned it down. I'm just glad the pupper got back to his/her family and the money just isn't as important as getting the dog back to the family.

I offered to give some money to the lady that found Ivy. She refused it. Plus I have also been told not to offer a reward. I have helped return lots of dogs over the years. I have been given cookies (when I was doing good on a diet) LOL Plus offered cash, but I don't believe in taking it.
One good deed deserves another, in my book!
BUT what we have decided to do for Ivy's rescuer is to buy an Ivy plant and dress it up a little with a little doxie stuffed toy and maybe some little chocolate kisses etc. Not sure how to put it together.

I bought the Ivy plant now I have to figure out how to string chocolate kisses together so she will have Ivy kisses too! I spent $50 total so far and that didn't include putting some kind of doxie toy or figurine with it yet.:flower:

I make a candy tree at Christmas and the hangers go right through the flag and foil twist at the top of the kiss. They hold really well. You could hang a bunch of them off of the ivy.
Another thought would be to get an inexpensive grapevine wreath shaped like a heart and start to train the Ivy to grow around it. You can usually find the wreaths at any craft store or craft department of wal- mart or K-mart.
You can attach the ivy to the wreath with floral pins or floral wire then just wrap and tuck the ivy as it grows.

I would give the person whatever they wanted, including my soul, if they'd return my babies.

Whatever the cost would be to get them back is what would be offered. Clay and Rocky are my children (I'm unable to give birth to human children) and my husband knows if anything should ever happen to either of them while in his care that is grounds for divorce, and I'm not kidding. (for example he opens the front door which is a big no no in our home and they run out and are killed, an accident on his stupidity...grounds for divorce).

I would pay as much as I could without having to sell my car, home, etc. I don't think I would pay much more than $5k though....but then again, I have no idea the pain I'd be feeling about lossing my Cocoa.

I am on disability and only get about $1200 a month but answered $2000 or more I would sell EVERYTHING I own if God forbid something happened. Horrors :faint::faint::faint: Well I was right behind her in my PJ's mind you, new to the neighborhood and newly separated going thru radiation treatments..just picture me ...pretty site I was!!!! hahaha anyway, as I finally got across the street some guy was trying to pick her up and put her in his car!!! She had a tag with my address and # and I was yelling she is mine and her name and finally her put her down and said "Oh, is she YOUR dog??" WHAT??@!!!!:punch::frypan: I am screaming her name and running across traffic what do you think??!! Scared me and now I have a baby gate at the door so when I open it she can't get out just in case!! scary world!!! :sorry:

I agree.
I thought if Smudge ever went missing I would post a reward. It never even occurred to me that people would steal dogs just to make a quick buck off of their return. It definitely makes me think twice.

Interesting poll. I know this is an old one but it came up on the side of the page and I had to read it. I would like to start it again and see what the answers are with all the members now.
I do not beleive in offering rewards for the return of animals. In this particular area Northwestern Montana, there are far too many cases of animals being stolen and then returned for the money. Not to say that if one of my furkids were missing and someone returned them I wouldn't offer them a reward.
Also I would move heaven and hell to find my furkds, and if someone had stolen them they had best spend the rest of their natural born life watching thier backs because I will catch up to them eventually and when I do all hell will break loose and I will make them extremely sorry that they took my furkid.
I am also a very firm believer in Karma and what goes around comes around. If a person is enough of a low life to steal someones furkid for profit then they will get what is coming to them one way or another. If someone stole one of my furkids you can bet your sweet bippy that I would help karma along in any way I could. I may even be the karma distributor in a case like that.
I have to admit, though that I have stolen more than one dog. But these were in abusive neglectful situations. I took them off the chains they were on, or the freezing yard they were abandoned in, and took them to my home, nursed them back to health and then found them good loving homes where they were treated with the love and respect they so richly deserved.

I love going back and looking at the older polls!
For me, no amount of money would be too much to pay to get Belle back! I'd beg, borrow and steal if necessary.

Hubby said let them spend one day with the Weaver weiners, hogging the couch, in and out 100 times a day, tripping over them, begging , poop scooping the back yard everyday, all 8 barking at the table at once, and oh when the doorbell rings, the howling and barking. They would gladly bring them back!!

Realistically, we could afford $1000 but i would take a loan out (if possible) to get my babies back! God forbid if someone took them though....

Well considering I'd do anything to get him back I would have to say there is no limit. I would beg, borrow and steal to get Reuben back home safe.
