Anybody know of any in the area?

Hi all,

Thought I'd do some research now, because if Chloe doesn't show improvement by next week I need to find a vet who knows doxies.

She's been checked by her regular vet -- nothing. Her holistic vet (also a regular vet) believes she is having a reoccurance of a chronic muscle pull, but she is not responding to acupuncture or herbal muscle relaxers as fast as last time. Just yesterday she went on another herbal pill to help with mobility, so I'll have to wait to see how that works. (No problems walking though)

Last time she showed remarkable improvement, so I'm a big fan of holistic. But I just want to be prepared. Another x-ray? (nothing showed up a year ago) An MRI - what does that show? I would really like to talk with a vet who has more experience with our breed. (Also, I'm freelance, so while I'll put myself into debt to get my baby well, I also don't want to throw away money)

Anybody? Thanks.
Linda

Do you mean Los Angeles or Louisiana? I'm sorry I don't know a vet who specializes in doxies -- I would think that's a pretty narrow field. Good luck. Perhaps one of our members who lives in those areas can help.

I was thinking Los Angeles but yes LA could be either. I would look for a VTH or a large private hospital with a neurologist on staff. A conventional x-ray may not pickup all disk problems. A mylogram (SP) where the inject a radioactive dye into the spinal column shows a geat deal more information. The MRI is also good at showing more soft tissue details including disk. The VTH here generally does a mylogram to help keep cost down but there are times with small dogs or if there is high pressure in the spinal column from an injury that they go to the more costly cat scan (I belive it was a cat scan not an mri they use for backs).

It's Los Angeles, sorry...

I freaked out today because Chloe was worse, but I think she might be allergic to this new herb. (The reaction came right after) My holistic vet is putting her prednisone (5mg) for a week.

When this first happened a year and a half ago, I had gone the regular vet route so she had been on anti-inflammitories for a month before trying acupuncture. (And then the acupuncture was like a miracle) I'm kind of hoping that maybe she needs something like that again. Inflammitory, THEN holistic.

The vet did mention a mylogram as the next step. I just wish this step would work.

Thanks for all your support!

Linda
