I haven't written at this particular site for a long while mainly because my dachsie is incredibly well. We got back from the vet yesterday and Gunther has lost a total of 11 pounds. I believe it was about two years ago he had started with cervical problems, not to mention bad arthritis in other areas. (Gunther is 10). He has been running like a pup for a good many months now and I attribute this to the weight loss and the join/cartilage supplement . But mainly I think it was the weight. Our vet is amazed. We were just about to book surgery, when we decided to give one more try with the prednisone and strict weight loss regime. So we celebrate our 10 years of having our handsome little man.

Congrats on Gunther's recovery! I recently put Bogart, my 11 year old, on a strict diet. He weighed 16.8# and should have weighed 13! Eight months later he's down to 13.4# and doing great. Lots of energy and plays with my two younger ones for the first time! It's amazing what losing the weight can do for them.

Welcome back Gunther's mom. I'm very glad to hear about the progress. Congratulations Gunther and Bogart, you did a great job. :bounce:

Pictures would be much appreciated, especially before and after pictures so we can see how well he has done. If not, then I'll be waiting excitedly for some after pictures. :D

Thank you for the great news update. Just remember you don't have to be experiencing a problem to post here:). The first dachshund we had when I was growing up should have been about 1 pounds but we let her get up to the 15-16 pound range. She died of a heart attack at age 10. We are all pretty sure the extra weight contributed to her heat attack. Ever dachshund since then has stayed very close to their ideal weight. We live and learn from our experiences.
