My Opal is 13 weeks and we thought she was paper trained - Oh joy! We thought she finally had it pretty down pat. She would play with us, and go into our linolium kitchen and pee on her paper. We were thrilled... BUT... Our throw rugs seem to count as paper as well. She has never peed or pooed on our hard wood floors, and now not on the linolium either. She always goes to one of the three Ikea throw rugs we have in our house OR her paper. The decision seems random. I always catch her in the act on the rugs and mid pee or poop she gets a stern NO! and gets put on the paper to finish. Tonight we are going to roll up ALL the rugs and really confuse her!
I have no choice but to paper train. Im gone for four hours at a time during the day and her little bladder doesnt seem to hold much. I gate her in the kitchen, she goes on her paper like a good girl. But we cant seem to break this Throw rug obsession she has... even the tiny rug in the bathroom wasnt safe!
How did I ever live with out my wiener dog?

My guess is she is going on the rugs because it is soft. I was told that given a choice the dog will go on the rug because it is soft like grass. And that they (dogs) don't like hard floors.

Chloe did the exact same thing. We have hardwood and linoleum throughout our house except for the bedroom and office. She ouwld sneak in there and go, but never on the hard surfaces. So, we just got a gate and kept her locked out of there for the few months that she was doing that. Now she doesn't do it at all. I think it was just part of growing up! <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm30.gif" border=0> I would definitely take the rugs away for awhile. It should be a temporary thing.

Stacy,
You said it best when you said " How can I ever live without a weiner dog?" Wow, that's the answer, just love. I can now here my daughter yelling NO to Dudley, he is 8 weeks old today. Wow, just cherish each and every precious moment. Is the boy bladder maybe smaller? This little guy just might be marking his territory? I guess! I mean he goes little spots every where. I am up every 3 hours at night for Pee, Poop, and eat and Play. Just the joys of being a new mommy again. We are blessed with owning our own home and have chosen to get rid of all wall to wall carpeting. Wow, the dust that stuff can hold. Oh well, back to Opal I checked out her Web page> Wow, what a precious little one you have. Patient, just be patient. I guess you know that. We are from Everett, PA. And had to put down our 10 year old black and tan smoothie on 3-12-01. Now I have this new mommy feeling! But, have a 3 year old grandson. We also have a 6 1/2 yr. old long haired red, mini. My husband recently told me that I didn't know what stress was. Because I am a stay at home mom. And babysit our grandson. Oh well I guess his job is like really hard. At least he gets out.
The thing is that I am a rag rug maker on a loom. And it doesn't bother me a bit to see someone mess up my rugs. I mean life is too short to worry about material objects when you have precious life to care for. My rugs are an expression of my love for fiber arts as well as my quilts. But, I use them everyday. And the dogs, do too! Opal will come around and the years will flow by and you will look back and say it was good!
