Gosh, dachshunds are stubborn little things, aren't they?
We have been doing our homework every single day. It's been a chore to practice "down". For me and him! He really doesn't like it at all. Last night, I tried using the ottoman that someone here suggested (I'm sorry I can't recall your name, but you know who you are!). It worked! I'm so thankful!
After being at face level with him a few times, I got him on the floor. I still have to bait him with cheese. But, he now will do a full down! He will only do a full down on a rug, though. No cold tile floors for him.:sarcasti: We are getting there! Maybe by Thursday he'll do it on command. Dare I hope?;)
About Priscilla and training: I'm clicker training her. So far, all we've done is sit. She's about 90% at sit, once I get her attention, which is hard. It's just so cute to see her plop her hiney down and wait expectanly for that manna from heaven.;)

Congrats to Elvis for the down....that's such a hard one for these little ones. And Priscilla sounds like she is doing well also...90% for sit is very good for such a young baby! Kudos to you and keep us posted. Give the cuties a smooch for being so good for their mama!

And, yes, they are stubborn!!!!! Isobel still tries the fake sit with me and hangs her head when she's busted :sarcasti:

   Cool... That was my instructors suggestion!! I'm so glad it worked!! Merry didn't like doing down on the cold surface either. I had to take a bath mat to her finals class... a little cheating but it worked!!

Keep up the good work Elvis !!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

and Priscilla!

Good training to you too!

We haven't bothered with down since we taught them down meant "get down" oops.

My hubby thinks it's unnecessary anyway, considering their height. He didn't like sit either, but finds it extremely useful now that they want to go outside all the time, and need their electronic collars. :raz: It's so much easier to put a collar on a still pup.

Stubborn, a dachshund, no never, :sarcasti: At class Trencye would heel as long as every other dog was moving. When the trainer had everyone sit, and just Trencye was to heel...The girl looked around, and sat her cute little butt on the floor.:thinker: Personally, I found it amusing. The instructor not so.

Keep up the good work!

Fantastic! So glad that it is working! Tess doesn't like to let her rear touch the cold surface either... so we get a crouched sit and down on cold concrete. Her instructor tells her she is a cheater!

Too funny! Cricket is far from trained in that capacity but he REFUSES to sit on the tile! He will either go to an area rug (unless they are hanging to dry) or sit on our FEET! Little turd. If we put them up, he looks at us and barks until we put our feet on the floor so he can plop his butt down! :dizzy:

Ha- Geisha's teacher says little dogs are spring loaded when it comes to teaching down- they'll follow the lure with their head, and BOINK- up comes the other end! It's uncomfortable for bony butts to sit on hard surfaces- and laying is just as rough.

My darling Dutch is just impossible- he'd cheat on "sit" and "down" on concrete every time, if I'd let him. He almost always requires correction- but will usually give in after a single "DUTCH!" I think we get funny "sits" out of him because he's so darn long! He is the loooongest dachshund I've seen- both Lynx and Geisha are relatively short bodied, he's no taller than either, but extends past their booties by several inches. Their balance must be different. :)

Way to go with both E & P! Wow I am impressed to say the least. Now that I have started Zor in classes I will have to start practicing with him more. It is fun even if they don't do it right. I agree who cares. Now if I could just get the little turd to stop yapping his gums so much. I new mini's have a little bit of a gabby tendency. Oh well, cute is cute!:greensq:

Oh yeah- mini's may have SOME shrunken parts, but their mouths and egos aren't!

Sooooo true.. I can't believe such a loud sound comes out of Merry. Barts previous owner de-barked him.... I don't think I could ever do that... but I know why she did it.. he is VERY vocal.

On another note. I picked up Merry in agility class last week and she let out the loudest BURP!!! cracked everyone up.

It's funny about barking. I had always read that dachshunds were barkers. The only dachshund I ever had was Elvis. He's not a barker. He does bark, but only when necessary - someone at the door. Really! He just doesn't bark that much.
Along come Miss Priscilla. She's a barker. I fear it will only get worse with age. She barks at Elvis if he won't give her his toy. She barks at feet. She barks just for the joy of barking, I think.
It's funny how different they all are. She does a lot of growling, too.

My husband says Trenyce has a sexy, raspy little bark, and Ruben's is manly. :o

We are working on the QUIET command these days! Last night I even got out the camera, for a barking fit, but you know how they all get when you have the camera. :dizzy: Anyway, we have these tall, narrow windows, which go almost to the floor, (no covering) and the pups like to stand tall and bark out them. (Naturally!) Last night the neighbor was mowing, and everytime he made a pass by the window, off the lap, and to the window they went. Each time me telling them "quiet." Ruben got bored and went back to his bully stick after a while, but at one point, there they both were, standing tall at the window, side by side with just enough room for two, barking their fool heads off.   It would have made a great pic, but... I was sure getting irritated. If only their little voices weren't so precious. We'll keep training! (got a smiley for hands over ears?)

Might be time to introduce Miss Priscilla to Mr. squirt bottle. Willy has be exercising his voice, so Mr. squirt bottle came out.
