I rememeber when I worked at a supermarket years ago in college, we sold ice cream for dogs called Frosty Paws. I don't think it was a big seller. I bought it once for my Yorkie and she loved it. But of course she loved ice cream. My mom would give her a little bit of Breyers vanilla every night .

Does anyone know if ice cream is bad for dogs? I gave Harley a little taste of 97% Fat Free TCBY frozen yogurt before and he LOOOOVVVEEEEDDDD it but I never tried real ice cream yet. :snoopy:

giving icecream to your pups from time to time, I'd avoid the chocolate and I'd only give a little as it has quite a bit of sugar and some dogs also can't tolerate milk products too well.

Oooh! And it's the Eskimo Pie people.... yummmmm.... :D

I still see Frosty Paws in the petstores from time to time (they're out on the aisles, unfrozen), but I seem to remember not being a fan of the ingredient list, so I haven't tried them. I did make a homemade recipe I saw somewhere last summer! The boys LOVED them- I'll have to dig up the recipe so that Geisha can try them, too. :raz:

tell your humom here's a good recipe..

quart vanilla yogurt
1 medium banana
2 T peanut butter (I use natural style)
2 T honey Puree the banana in a food processor (a blender would probably work fine). Add the peanut butter and honey and continue processing until smooth. Add yogurt and process just long enough to blend all ingredients together. Place 18 small paper cups (bathroom size) in a baking pan (one 9x13 or two 8x8 work well). Fill paper cups to about 2/3's full. An ice cream scoop or a measuring cup makes the job easier. Freeze until solid. I transfer the frozen treats to zip-lock bags for storing in the freezer

THAT'S the recipe!! Wheee... my hard copy is probably still sitting in a box some where... *hangs head in shame* :)

Well- Geisha's not at work with me, but here's what I KNOW she'd say: ;alksdjfaoa;lsdufjasoi;laskdjf==ik'gp

And the boys would likely repeat it for you. I'll take pictures this time- it's so cute to watch a dachshie holding their icecream with their paws, melted stuff all over their face! Geisha's going to be a complete mess!!

Oh no! All my dogs except the skinny 12-year-old Barney are on a diet. Please do NOT mention this to them... especially Liebchen (Lizzy) and Lucy.

I do remember Chief getting a "frosty paws" treat when we did a dog walk a few years ago and remember seeing the ingredients and going "blech" and didn't even give it to him, so now I started to look to try and find the ingredients...of course NO where could I find... I DID find the 800 number and called. They have NO website and NO way to even e-mail me the ingredients..BUT will be faxing it to me. I'll post it once I get it.

Ewwww! Yep, that's what I said in the store. While I tried to hunt down the FrostyPaws ingredients (great minds... :)), I ran across a newsgroup post claiming someone had already seen Dogsters in the grocery store. Here's what they listed for ingredients- boy, does it sound MUCH better:

Water, dried cheddar cheese and
cheese, dried whey, maltodextrin, dried whey protein
concentrate, peanut butter prepared from unbleached peanuts,
carmel color, vegetable gums (guar, carrageenan)

BUT- I think that the make it yourself recipe is the best of all- and undoubtably friendlier on the wallet! :D

certainly DOES sound a whole lot better. I'd give it a try if I could find it locally, otherwise...Chief will just HAVE to suffer with MY home made version...:D

I thought I would be nice and give them each a treat. Dah don't give them each their own container. So the next time I cut it in thirds. But it still seemed to be a problem for Ivy. So I tossed the rest in the sink. No more for my puppers at all.

We have a GREAT dog store-called Good Dog and during the summer they have a freezer case out front where you can buy homemade doggie ice cream--different flavors--made with basically the same stuff someone posted as a recipe here. Anyway, the great thing is--when you're walking your dog on a hot, summer day you can buy them an ice cream and then walk a little further up the street and buy yourself one, sit down on a bench and eat it together. With all those Frosty Paws ingredients.........less is more.

I think I saw the new brand at Publix last night. Rumble loves Frosty Paws but then he loves any food.

I'm going to call later and ask the ingresient list as the treats look yummy:) I'll let you know what I find out. No Frosty Paws here. Makes my kids puke....no more puking!:crying:

the freeze dried ice cream ingredients aren't much better than the frosty paws. I'll try and find it and post it.
