Didn't know if this had been posted before. Such a good idea. I was behind a truck last week that had a beautiful dog standing on the tool box in the back of the truck. She was able to go in and out of the cab and stand on the box. She was constantly sliding and trying to get her footing. When he had to stop for stop signs, she would slip into the bed of the truck but jump right back on the box. I was so nervous behind them. I didn't think I would hit her but I could just see her sliding off the box over the side of the truck and either getting hit by oncoming traffic or just being injured from the fall. The owners were oblivious to her actions.

Could not open that site, 'page cannot be displayed'.
I know what you mean though, I hate seeing dogs in the back of pickups sliding around and falling down. The owners must think they enjoy it, I'm sure some may have fallen out of the pickup beds. In CA we do have a law they are to be restrained but not everyone does it.

I know someone who lost the dobe to leaving him loose in the back of the truck. It is just to dangerous, and no matter how well trained it only takes one time for them to jump out at the wrong place. Which is what happened to her, they had a flat on the HWY and she thought it was OK to get out. The one time she didn't wait for her OK to get down. They were so devastated by it. I don't think they have gotten another dog sense.
I think they should either be crated if they have to ride in the back and it should be tied down somehow. But just think how hot it must get.
I know we used to ride in the back of my Uncle's truck too. It was always so much fun! But he was the slowest driver around. :D

I agree that unconfined pets do pose a risk of accident. Buckling them up in the front seat is not good either though.
