I thought that Amanda was doing okay, but now she's definitely having back problems. She has a spot in her neck that's sore and is very stressed. I'm getting ready to put her in a tub of hot water to see if I can get her to relax and not make it worse. We have a vet appointment at 12:30, I'll let everyone know what happens.

Please keep us posted. Tanner tends to get very stressed if he isn't feeling well and after trying rescue remedy last summer I now know for him it's not a bad thing to reach for when he is a little bit off. It really helps him relax and forget his problem for a while allowing him to get a good nap in.

Ask your vet what he thinks about it. I ask my vet before I used it for the first time. His reply was he didn't know if it would help or not but didn't see how it could so any harm so feel free to go for it.

Sending rays that Amanda has a full and speedy recovery.

I took Amanda to the vet today and her back and neck muscles are very tight. The vet gave me something to help her relax and prescribed crate rest and warm wet packs for her back. Amanda is not a happy camper. She doesn't like being confined in the crate! She was barking at me when I came home to let her out! The DH and I had decided to go out of town for the weekend for the first time in years so Amanda is going to go stay with my friend who runs a boarding kennel. She is really good with old dogs and dogs with problems. She'll keep her in a crate in the office area and just take her out for potty breaks. She's doing better already. I'm very hopeful that she'll be okay.

Patrice, I'm sorry to hear Amanda's having problems but it sounds like you've got a handle on things and Miss Amanda will just have to deal with the crate rest! You know her staying at your friends kennel might make the crate rest easier... she'll be in a less familiar environment and won't put up as much of a fuss over it... maybe?
Sending calming, relaxing rayz :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: to Amanda. Try not to worry and keep us posted! :)

I hope miss Amanda feels better when you come back from your trip. Try to have some good time. It is hard to go away when your furkid is sick but she will be well taken care.

The hot packs and crate rest seem to be helping. She was barking at me to let her out this morning. Her back muscles still feel awfully tight though. I'm going to do the hot packs again in a minute.

I think that I was so stressed out about everything that my back has tightened up, too. My neck is kind of stiff! Now I'm probably going to have to go to the chiropractor!

Figures that you'd react to her tightness, Patrice! Hopefully your week-end will soothe those cramped muscles for both you and Amanda. Have a good time and keep us posted on the little one. Oh, and give her a big smooch from all of us here!

Hi everyone, I am brand new to this forum but had to jump in right away to tell you that chiropractic will help most any dog with back issues. My rescue girl, hope, is a walking poster child for chiropractic. When i got her she couldn't walk, wag her tail or hold her head up and her back was arched because of the problem in her back she also had no bladder control and her back legs were like tooth picks due to muscle atrophy. She now walks, runs,(we call her bullet) wags and holds her head up high. She has much more control of her bladder has many fewer muscle spasms in her back and is a happy dog. Her legs have filled out and gotten much stronger, she no longer licks incessently to try to comfort herself due to the extreme pain in her back.
In addition to regular adjustments I have found that changing her diet has made a huge difference. I noticed that she had more bladder problems after chewing rawhide chewies or eating kibble with grain products in them so I cut all that out. Please, everyone, do your four legged friends a favor and find out what chiropractic can do. Please email me if I can help further!

A lot of members on here have used chiropractic on their dogs with good results. I see you are a chiropractor - it will be great to have an expert on the board!

Just wanted to say "welcome!" I am mom to two little girls (below in my signature). When you have a moment, post in the Welcome section, too, so everyone can greet you properly!:)

Amanda had a chiropratic adjustment last week and is going this week for another. I've used chiropractic successfully first on my dogs and then on myself. It did help her.

Amanda is doing okay. It's kind of up and down. She's better in the morning and worse in the afternoon and then a little better at bedtime. I just never know. She really isn't improving though, just not getting a lot worse. At 15, I'm afraid she may not recover from this one. She's made it through back surgery and cancer surgery, but I don't know if she can beat it this time.

I know how hard the ups and downs can be. I get a knot in my tummy every time Chief isn't himself. It's a bad roller coaster ride isn't it.

:rayz: to you and Amanda!

It's awful! I'm not sure she's going to make it through this one. I've done this twice in the last 3 years and it's so hard.

We all know it's tough Patrice...but I look at MiniCooper's Cooper, and he's still going strong even tho he's a senior that's gone through this.

We're here for you and lots and lots of :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: for Ms. Amanda!

You might ask your vet about baby aspirin (actually, they even have dog aspirin) and see if that helps some on down days. I know it is tough when they are on a rollar coaster!

Sending more :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: to Amanda!

I don't know if you have Amanda on Ester C, but I find that if Cooper or Mini get a bit 'Wobbly" I double their normal dose for a day or so, and that really seems to help.

We are keeping both you and Amanda in our thoughts.
