This morning Buddy went to the door and wanted out to go potty. I am really impressed with how is training is going. We have had a few mishaps lately but I think with consistency and regular feeding he is begining to catch on. For those of you who have doggy doors, did it help with the training? I am trying to convience hubby we need one.

We have a doggie door and it's amazing how much it has helped. our maggie is 9 weeks old and it's only been a week and a half that she's been with us, but she's pretty well trained. we taught her that "outside" is the place to go, so now whenever she gets the urge, she goes. much easier than trying to teach her how to "hold it" in a crate. not as heartbreaking either.

Hiya!
We have an old cat door in our screen . Wotan took one and a half hotdogs to learn what it was for! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/facelick.gif
In the winter I open it for him a few mins during "potty" times .
The only problem with doors is you have to watch your dachsie to make sure it can't get out of the yard (in towns) or some preditor
can't get at your baby. Wotan was carried off by a coyote, but he was lucky (and ornery) enough to get away! It was still scary and now I make sure I always know what my Wotan is up to even when he lets himself out!

Wotansmutti:
The coyote actually picked Wotan up? That IS scary! My mother lives in a very wild part of New Hampshire, and we're always afraid for her mini long-hair Molly. One morning at about 6 a.m. Molly insisted on going out and then disappeared for about 20 minutes. My mother and sister ran out into the snow, dreading they were going to find Molly dead from an encounter with a bear...and found Molly perfectly fine and delighted that everyone was up and playing! They never did find out what she'd been up to.
