Got a good one.....http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif

I am just thinking that Lady and Hannah are already very spoiled, but both are now doing their business (both) on our driveway in the morning and late evening! This is primiarly due to the fact that I have decided that they don't want their little feetsie wet....http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

All kidding aside, this is making for quite unpleasant "welcome" for neighbors to our house and my hubby is worried that the urine will permanently set into the concrete and the smell will come alive in the heat....

I have tired stopping them and placing them on the grasss, but they tippy-toe back to the concrete and finish!!!

Now, don't get me wrong, I am SOOOOO excited that they are doing this somewhere other than our house, but wonder if I can do anything to move them into the grass..

Suggestions please..http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/think.gif

I also have this problem with brownie. she only like to do her number 2 on the concrete or driveway. I washed my driveway down a couple of times because of it and then I forgot to do that and never noticed any differece in the air quality around that area and I have not noticed and damage to the dirveway so I now let nature wash my driveway for me.

Since our backyard is um, shall we say rather like a jungle (we bought a "rescue" house, and it was dreadful, and the constant rain this summer has not allowed us to finish with it as quickly as planned), Chaucer was potty-trained on our deck. Doesn't seem to have had any serious effect on the wood, and it was very convenient b/c we could get him outside fast, in the beginning when he needed more "help", plus we spend a lot of time out there ANYWAY. At first, he wouldn't go at all on walks, but he's getting better with that--though sometimes the little freaky-boy still want sto wait til we get home.

Most dogs that relieve themselves on pavement (esp concrete) probably spent a goodly amount of time in a concrete run, & it has become a habit. Some dogs have even been punished for using the grass.

I moved the wastebasket in the kitchen two months ago so the pup could use the cubbyhole under the counter as her den. I am STILL trying to drop stuff in the wrong place, & I'm supposed to be a smart hooman bean!

You might try taking them out on leashes, until they get the idea. Also, mop up the accidents & put the paper towels in the do-it-here place, so they know it's okay. And have a few nice treats in your pocket, one for each job finished. (Be sure to wait until they're finished or they might stop in the middle.)

Renee,
I had the same problem with my spoiled little Penny after the snow melted last year. She apparently decided that the sunwarmed pavement was much more comfy than they cold, wet lawn. We solved the problem by going out a different door - in the back of the house. This meant that our new doggie lavatory is under my clothesline, but I rake it every couple of days anyway....

I'm a newbie posting here so be gentle!

I've had my weiner boy since March. Hubby and I had never had a dachie before, but I've loved them since I was little. First we tried treating him like our other dog- a heller-mix. WRONG! So then we got a crate. Works great when we're at work, and at night. We tried to have him sleep in our room, but he thought we should be on the floor--not him.

We feed him once a day, at night, and leave water in the crate all the time. We take him out twice, sometimes three times a day, but he's a wanderer--only pees and looks for new friends. He will only poop on our concrete patio. It get's pretty smelly here in the high desert,so we wash it down with Nature's Miracle, which in my opinion is the best stuff ever invented!
Thankfully since we got the crate, accidents in the house are now rare--usually when we forget to let him back out on the patio about a half hour after he eats.

My main point in posting this is I'm so glad to hear stories about how the little buggers love to give us their "gifts". I know you have to catch them in the act, but I swear my guy knows what he did was a no-no by the way he lowers his head and sticks his tail between his legs when I discover it! If I scold him after the fact, it's a long time before he does it again.

But I do agree--ya just love 'em!
