I have an 11 yr old male shorthair mini who always had a control problem as far as urination is concerned. He is now urinating all over even though I take him out many, many times. I believe he can't help it. I am trying to locate doggie diapers, but it seems they are all made for the regular shaped dog and not the LONG dachsie body. Can anyone give me ideas of where to purchase a disposable diaper that will fit his shape- he's 9 lbs. Baby diapers don't work. His penis goes over the diaper at the waist. Larger ones just fall off.
HELP !!!!

Have you taken him to the vet? I hope Penny's Aunt sees this and can answer the question of medication. I have a 9 year old Dobe, Annie, who is on Phen(about 20 more letters), for incontinence. Works really well.
I do not know if there is the same kind of treatment for a male. The first thing my vet did was ask for a urine sample so she could diagnose the problem. Maybe that would be the way to go?

Someone on this bb or maybe another, mentioned attaching a maxi pad to their underside by wrapping an ace bandage around theri girth to hold it there. Maybe that might help in the time being. I agree that the vet might be able to help with a more permanent solution.

Some dogs develop stones in their bladder. One dog had 3 that grew together to be the size of a large grapefuit. The owners wondered why she couldn't hold her urine. (There wasn't room!)

Sometimes a mass blocks the urethra, which can be corrected.

Sometimes it is just weak spincter control of the muscles around the urethra. Hormone replacement therapy can help this. There is also a new drug called PPA which is very effective, & with very few side effects. It can be used on males & females.

Your boy needs a trip to the vet.

Your question is why I joined the Dachsie Bulletin Board. My older female doxie has a heart murmur. She is 14 1/2 and due to the heart murmur she has problems with incontinence, her kidneys are not working the way they used to. I need to find some sort of diaper to help her and ME... she wet on the bed last night.. can't have that!! Any ideas from anyone??

I have several doxies with incontinence issues....I buy regular baby diapers (16-28 lbs) and wrap it around them the males.....for females, I just poke a hole for the tail and place it on. I use a piece of masking tape for extra hold. Baby diapers absorb so much better then doggie diapers....not to mention so much cheaper too!

Depending on how big a lot of people also buy premiee baby diapers and just cut a hole in the back for the tail...
