How many of you have provisions for your dog in your will, and for those that do, what do you plan for them after you are gone?

Do NOT even want to think about it but EVERYONE in my family knows how I feel about my babies even though they don't understand my LOVE for my dachsie's!!! Thank GOD for the DBB. My husband would never let go of them but if something happened to him they would go to my parents even though they have their hands full with their babies already. They would make it work! I can't even ...........OMG, imagine!!!! What a hard question to fatham!! :yikes: :uh-oh: :puppy:

We certainly considered it and it is clearly spelled out in our will. If God Forbid something happened to both of us, they will go to a good friend of ours who loves dogs and lives on an amazing lakeside property.

I know it's something terrible to think about, but what's more terrible to think about is the poor little babies getting shoved in a kill shelter where they might not get adopted. It's a very responsible thing to do. I plan on making a new will when I get back to Kentucky (after I kidnap Dred), so that I'll have seperate provisions for him to go back to his Dad, and Piper will go to my brother, as his wife LOVES her.

Okay... I don't quite have a will yet... know I should make one...
Our parents would take care of the girls...
Husband and I are both only children, so we will need to make sure provisions are made for dogs in the future if parents are no longer around...
painful topic, but important to think about.

We have a Will but it was made after our kids were born but before Charlie. People know our plans. If I need to do other changes then I will make sure Charlie is in there.

Being single having little to leave anyone I've never bothered with a will but know I should. Besides plans for any current companions I would also like for teh ashes of any who have passed before me be combined with mine. Then thye can be scattered together.

Our attorney had a good suggestion... don't name specific pets in your will since the document could 'outlive' them making it nonapplicable. Instead she recommended putting verbiage in to include any/all pets you own at the time of your demise. Depressing to think about but the last thing any of us want is for our babies to end up in kill shelters... or worse.

my youngest son is the executor, and while he would not want any of my pets, he would make sure they were cared for until my oldest son and dil could take them home. His wife is a real softie, too. Every squirrel, lizard, frog and toad in the area has her number.
I also have 5 birds, and same thing there. If the kids didn't want all of them (and I can't even imagine that....they are pet lovers like me) they would make sure they got excellent homes.
But I really do need to update that will....I actually am worth a little more than I used to be :cheer: :cheer:

Our first dachshund pair were on our will. They were to go to my husband's sister. Our kids came along later and the youngest one was leaving home to collage soon. We never added our "human kids"on it.:duh: What good parents we are!!!

I was just thinking about this today...when I get the business up (since I have NO money now, just the house which I co-own with my Mom and both our '06 Vibes are co-owned together too. We did that for that very reason.) I will have one made up.

Actually, if I die and my current puppers are still around, my contract says they will go back to CTDR. My S. O. would want to keep them, but he doesn't do walks and he loves them to overweight so that's not an option for me. I'm glad the contract exists to take care of that situation. Although I know my daughter would see that they had a VERY good home, in the long run, and that is in my will.
And PLEASE don't assume people know your intentions - we just went through a situation like that around Christmas. The now-deceased said "everything was taken care of" and lo and behold, nothing was taken care of. Wills are the kindest thing you can do for your loved ones - no matter what age you are, no matter how little you have, wills are VITAL. Verbal instructions won't hold up in court (and those who heard them may not be around) - PLEASE PREPARE/UPDATE YOUR WILL so your specific intentions can't be misunderstood! I work in the legal field, and I see disasters every day because no will was prepared. It's so easy to prevent all that heartache!

I have no will...I know I should. My hubby will take care of them and if he can't take care of 4, he will keep 2 and my oldest son will take them and care for them. The cat will out live us all  !
