View Full Version : Do your pups play differently with male vs female humans?

None of my pups play with me the same way that they play with my son and his male friends. They play with my son's female friends the same way as with me.
At night, I ask Nathan and his male friends to play with Trixie to tire her out, because she plays differently with male humans than with female humans. She plays rough with the male humans. :bounce2: When I do the exact same thing as Nathan and his male friends do, I don't get the same reaction from her. She just sits there and stares at me like I'm an idiot. :puppy: So then I have to resort to throwing toys for her.
I was wondering if it was just my pups, or if yours do the same.

Harley plays very different with me and the boyfriend. We could all be on the couch with him sitting nice on my lap. Then he will jump up and bite hoodaddy's nose and start roughhousing with him! Then run back to me when done to lay down or jump on me and kiss me. I guess I am "home" or "safe" for him.
Harley plays very rough with my dad. He's even drawn blood a few times.
With me playtime involves pulling my hair or my scrunchie out and jumping all over me. I usually lay on the floor with him. He will go back and forth between light biting and licking with me. It's never hard biting like with the guys.
My old yorkie used to act the same way.

Cricket plays for "boy" games with his hoodad and just likes to play "chase mom" or "what's under mom's skirt" with me. He plays with the kids differently too. When he plays with them he doesn't make much contact. It's more of a grab and run type thing. Like he knows they might get too rough and someone could get hurt and sent to time out. He usually just grabs one of their stuffed animals and hauls tail out of their rooms...........:fierce:

Hmm, no difference that I can recall. They are both more bonded with me (although Jinxie is a big sucky Daddy's girl at times).
Interesting thought tho - I will have to watch to see if there are differences.

Penny plays like Harley. She comes to me to sit, snuggle, kiss, etc and turns to my boyfriend to rough house. She does play "chase" with me and fetch and sometimes I'll lay on the floor and bark at her---and she hops up onto my back and lies down--it's adorable. But with other people--male and female--she plays much calmer then with my boyfriend.

loves the boys! When she plays with a male type persons she is all hugsy smoochy flirty! Absolutely shameless! With female type persons, (not Mommy) she is quiet and sweet. With Mommy? Well, for a hint, her farther's name is Tazmanian Devil....the Dachshie don't fall too far from the tree! We have wild playtimes. Hoodaddy just about kicks us out of the house we make so much noise! She will get a little wild with him and nip his nose and such. But mainly she smashes herself against his face. She really loves beards. :luvlove:

Since I live alone I'm both mom and dad. I play rough with them and I also am the one they come to for snuggles and lovin'. But, when I was in a long-term relationship a couple years ago, they would would play "rougher" with Jim than me. But when he left, it was back to mama to play rough and snuggle. Duncan and I have a nightly ritual of playing VERY rough before bed. The first time Noah saw this he went ballistic...NO hurting of the mommy! He went between Duncan and me and the look on Duncan's face was priceless... "What the H*** is he doing?" For the next few weeks I had to crate Noah so Duncan and I could play. Now, since Noah is learning the new command "Boundaries, Noah," he is better at leaving us alone....although he keeps a close eye on Duncan in case he has to come to my rescue. My Hero! :D :sarcasti:

Nope, Ruben will pee on everybody just the same! :sarcasti:
Actually, Ruben is rougher with us than Trenyce is, and Trenyce is MUCH rougher with her brother than she is with us hoomans. Thank goodness. I've seen her bite him. OUCH!

I answered yes because of Grace. The "person" and I say that with ,was a man and he was not very kind to her therefore she doesn't care for men except her Dad. He is the only male that she will have anything to do with and that still took about 6 months for her to get closer to him. Now they are good friends. Thor will play with anyone.

Okay, this is an OLD poll, but I just got it on my startpage, so I'm hoping to open it up again! We got my male doxie as a puppy, he loved both Mommy & Daddy, but he REALLY dislikes men, loves women. HooDaddy is gone now (deceased) and the man he is around the most is now my father. He growls at my Dad when he is not with me, and is very wary of meeting new men. He's also very nervous around children, he doesn't like quick movements. (No kids in the house here.) He is very protective of his Momma.

Mud has always loved men! He loves me, but he especially loves my boyfriend and any other guys. So yes, I'd say he does play differently with them. He acts more confident when he's with guys. Haha!

Sammy, my 1 yr old, couldn't care. Macy, my 2 month old, doesn't care either, but she prefers females over males. If two friends come over... male and female, she'll run to the female first for lovins.

I said yes. Ringo thinks my dad is a giant chew toy. It's my dad's fault. When we first got Ringo, he did not like my dad - it was kind of a mixture of being afraid of him and not liking him. Anyways, when he finally started coming to my dad (after a year!), my dad let him do whatever he wanted, just so he'd like him. So now Ringo thinks he can just push him around and chew on him all the time lol Ringo really won't go to any other men, so I don't know how he would play with them. He tries to nibble on my mom and me every so often, but it's not so zealous as with my dad.
Really though, Ringo plays differently with me than with anyone else. If my mom or dad run at him, like to chase him, he'll run away. If I do it, he just sits there and looks at me. When I first got him, I nearly stepped on him, because I've never had a dog do that, and wasn't expecting it. It's strange.

Watch those "chase me" games - he might run away into a street with lots of traffic! Better they let him chase them, than the other way around. It's GREAT that he doesn't run away from you!

Suzanne, we only play this game in the house - he's never even allowed out the door without a leash. He tries to chase cars, even when he's on the leash, so I don't trust him without. He won't chase me either. He'll follow me everywhere I go, but if I run around, he just watches me like I'm nuts! hehe I guess it's just as well, I heard that if they chase you that means they think they're dominant over you...
