I am having a bit of trouble with Ginger and her housebreaking, she will be six months old next week, she does go outside, but will go inside as well. We think that because she is so small, she just may have such a small bladder that she can't hold it for too awful long. we are on a schedule, and it seems to help. I've considered puppy obedience as she is also a yappy barker when we are outside, sometimes she is so busy barking i have to give the pee command "Go, hurry" several times before she will do it. Our other dogs are housebroken and go on command easily, and i am concerned that her scent in the house will just make them relapse. We just recently moved, and our carpet here is new and luckily has stainguard!! If I see her go or find it quickly, it is still floating on the top fibers of the carpet and is easily cleaned away. I'm using oxi-clean and a scent neutrulizer on the spots. It seems like it took Jasmine a good year or so to finally get the housetraining, is this common in mini's?? We have tried everything, at this point i guess i just need reassurance that she will eventually get it. Would obedience school even help? She is going to the vet next week, so we will make sure she doesn't have any bladder or urinary tract problems at that time. Moving to the new house was the hardest on her, and maybe in a few weeks she will have adjusted and do better with the housetraining. Any suggestions??? Shay

You might try a diluted vinegar solution when cleaning the soiled areas. Urine contains ammonia (a base). When you add an acid (the vinegar) to a base, it will neutralize the area.

Dachshunds tend to be stubborn at times. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif I would just keep with the schedule, watch her in the house, and keep working. It will come. You may have to go back to basics for a while and keep her with you whenever in the house . Don't give her the unsupervised opportunity to have accidents.

I think you are doing fine and she'll hopefully "get it" soon.

As to cleaning, Oxi-clean alone ought to do just fine. I used it for cleaning up when training roscoe and rudy never relapsed, my carpet has no potty stains, nor does it smell. I also used it in my carpet shampooer with an upholstery attachment to clean 2 couches that were given to us. The former owners had a C-A-T and the cat had taken a dislike to one particular cushion. You can't tell now http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/wink.gif. The boys have not tried to mark over it, so I guess they don't smell it either.

I have heard that vinegar works well too, and I believe it, but I cannot stand the smell of it! I like the (unscented) oxi-clean better for that reason.

Hi!
I have a "new" pup named Dementia, and she is pretty hit and miss too. I think you are ahead of the game if your dachsie responds to the potty command! That's pretty good.

I've noticed that "children" dogs (i.e. not infants, so to speak) get more distracted the older they get. Scheduling does help, along with few opportunities to commit offenses. I also make Dementia watch while I clean it up when the whole time I'm making low tone disgusted noised at her.
I praise her to high heaven when she does it right!

I use wee wee pads (now down to two in the kitchen by the door) and a lot of Febreze. I also spray "Kids & Pets" neutralizer on the rugs. I still will have to replace the favorite one by the fridge after this pup!

They all love T-Bonz treats, i bought an antique apron at a thrift store, it has a pocket just the right size for a few treats. when they go on command they get one, it has made an amazing turnaround in Gin, she has had a few accidents in the house, mostly right at the door, but for those no praise, no treat, i just ignore her. will let everyone know if this works for us!!!!
