Among other findings, the analysis determined that the Chihuahua is actually a type of large rodent, selectively bred for centuries to resemble a canine.

Don't think the chihuahua folks are gonna like this at all... Did someone say Taco Bell? :D: or Chalupa? I think we all need to keep the "rodents" away from the badger dogs--could be some trouble brewing...

I know some people that called these dogs "rats"! I bet they didn't know that what they were saying was true.

When I was younger I got bit by my neighbor's mean chihuahua. Maybe I should have gotten a rabies shot??? :caffeine:

Wonder what Paris Hilton would say about dressing up and carrying around a rat???

They are still cute little dogs though. :puppy:

Those chihuahuas- some of them sure do resemble rats!! And those tiny little teeth...

But you SHOULD include a warning, Loren!

The Yorkie Terrier is part pigeon??? Someone please tell me that's not what they meant! No, really, I don't want to believe that.

I love Chihuahuas. Except my aunt's. He was a little nasty so and so. He thought he was as big as King Kong and would try to take your hand off everytime he tricked you into petting him. But, other ones I have met were so cute.

Did anyone think the woman at the end of the article sounded like a little old lady just waiting for something to complain about? :) We have one of those at the opposite end of the hallway. She doesn't like Schnitzel. :grrr:

EDITED - Thank you Chrissie. I feel MUCH better now. :D

This is totally a false rumor. Read below.

My girlfriend had a Chi back in Kentucky, it's name was Baby. We teased her calling it a rat on speed, LOL. I think it's hillarious, even if it's NOT true.

Oh my...it is funny. I often suspected. :) Even if it's not true, it is funny. so, what does one call a Dachshund/Chi mix? lol

so, what does one call a Dachshund/Chi mix?

If you're polite- a mixed breed.

If you're a little rough around the edges- a mutt.

If you're a stupid BYB/Petstore/Mill- I imagine they'd be called "little wieners".

I guess chihuahuas just never really "hit me" as dogs. I'll take rat. :)

I know that's mean- but REALLY! There's not much to love about a yapping rodent-look-alike. I think they'd have to be mixed with something for me to call them a dog... (mostly j/k- but... )

Heck, NYC rats look an AWFUL lot like chihuahuas--especially the ones under the platform in the subway station. Why pay money for a chihauhua when you get these Chi-wannabes for free?

Does this mean I can't get any of those breeds, as my cats would be prone to hunt them? lol Of course, from what I've seen of some of those breeds, my cats would be the ones on the run! :D
