Please crosspost!!

Letters need to be sent immediately to the Rockingham County Attorney in the case involving the intentional drowning of the NH dachshund.

Currently, the two women are charged with Class B Felony animal cruelty based on purposely causing the death of an animal by torture. However, the County Attorney is considering dropping it to a misdemeanor based on the wording of "torture," not being sure it will be possible to prove that drowning is torture.

A calm, rational letter campaign is urgently needed pointing out the salient facts such as that water has been associated with torture for centuries and continues to be a method of torture. "Water torture" was common during the Vietnam war. It seems it would also be impossible for the County Attorney or others to prove it is not torture for a dog to be intentionally drowned since canines cannot express to us (in a method valid in court) what fear they are experiencing.

I stress that it be a rational campaign with no stones tossed at the County Attorney because, in fact, he is very supportive of animal welfare issues and has, in the past, brought the toughest possible charges against people and diligently worked them through the court system. This man is a friend of animals and is simply needing to understand that he can successfully present a case that intentional drowning is torture. Please remind him also that the entire nation is watching to see how this will be handled.

Please write James Reams, County Attorney, Rockingham County, PO Box 1209, Kingston, NH 03848.

Thank you!
