Does anyone have any other animals in their house other than their beloved doxies?
At home: we just have Harley. (I don't count the spiders in the house since i try to kill every one! )
At work: I have a small aquarium with 2 goldfish and a pleco in it.

I voted 'other'.
- We have Buddy who was a carefully researched purchase.
- We also have Pooh and Tigger who are two very large female cats that were rescued at 5 weeks and we adopted at 6 weeks old. They outweigh the dog by about 2 and 4 pounds.
- Then we have Ginger and Lizzy who are two female leopard geckos that are almost 1 year old.
- We also have the crickets that get fed to them that always make you think of camping with their chirping in my kitchen (they live on top of the fridge in a small cage).
- And last but not least we have a 37 gallon fresh water fish tank.
It a house full with the 5 of us humans here as well! :)

Willow is the only Dachshund. Then we have Bubba and Scandal, larger mixed breed dogs. (Bubba is airedale/german shepherd. Scandal is mystery mutt :D )
We have a old cat, Moon, that lives on the porch. She hates dogs and refuses to come in the house unless it is very very cold. Then it takes some convincing.
And we have an aquarium with one rather large goldfish.

It took us 8 years of polite discussion before we decided to get our furkids. We've both had dogs before, but we thought this through with our heads, then went all mush the moment we held our pups. It's been more "why have kids when you can have dachshunds" ever since!
Now we wonder how we ever lived without them, and no we aren't getting any other kind of animal but are "planning for" our third baby next summer.

We have Cricket the doxie, two firebelly frogs and a turtle. Plus we have to buy live crickets to feed to the frogs. And a two year old and seven year old hooman children and a 31 year old hoodad. If I have to clean up after them, I list them!

Yes, I have a tabby cat named Tigger who has in the house first. I got him when he was 8 weeks old, and we are very bonded. He was almost two years old when I brought Roxy home. I think he was jealous at first(he swatted at her) but now they are used to each other and she is actually scared of the cat because he is bigger than her and he tries to play with her by pouncing on her. She doesn't mind when they chase each other, just when he tries to pounce, it scares her.

I almost adopted a 10yr old female rat terrier. I decided not to for financial reasons, but reading up on the breed they sound like a great dog and one I would like to have in the future.

We have Dred, our big gay Ridgeback, Tia the Terror, a YorkiePoo (another EXOTIC breed, LOL), and Pi. We also have 7 baby guppies, 2 baby mollies, 6 neon tetras, 2 saphire tetras, 3 albino cory cats, and one red eyed pleco (all fish in one huge aquarium). Then we've got lots of spiders and roaches that hang out outside the garage door at night.
I plan on taking Dred and Pi with me to Kentucky, the fish and Tia are staying. Tia isn't really ours, she's my Mother In Law's dog, and the fish aren't very portable. I plan on getting Pi a cat to play with since she loved my Mom's cat so well. I was going to reclaim my Chartreax cat (the blue one), Bleu, but Mom says Nuh uh to that. So maybe I'll get another blue kitty from the shelter. They are going to know me VERY well there!

One EXTREMELY large dachsie--Nelly a 90 pound shepherd/rottie (please don't tell her she's not a dachsie--it will break her heart!!);)
One small (but a lion at heart!) bunny--Ron--who quite oddly will hop to the door with the pups--sit up on his butt and wonder why his barker is broken:dizzy:
One parakeet-Lestat--a very anti-social loud screamer in the mornings!!!:cussing:
One rat--Hennifer--the thief of the house--if you are missing a tiny treasure--Hennifer has it!! :nono:
About a jillion fishies and frogs in various areas and aquariums around the house.:raz:
One 24 year old son--really quite the rockstar--but much more work then all the babies combined!!:partytim:
And of course--Skittles and Floaty!!

We have had a hedgehog named Prickles for almost 3 years now.
The first time Peaches and Prickles met, we put them on the floor together. Peaches ran up to Prickles. Well, if you know anything about hedgehogs, they get startled very easily. Prickles threw up all of her spines and spined Peaches right in the nose!
Peaches ran as fast as she could and jumped on my lay to bury her head! She was fine, but I think she was a little hurt that her big sis didn't like her!
We haven't tried to let them meet again. Peaches needs to calm down a bit before doing that! :circle:

I have always been an animal nut, having many many pets growing up. When my friend Jon asked if I would take his 6 mos old ferret off his hands (he likes animals...when they're someone else's responsibility) I was extremely excited bc I was living in a studio apartment and missed having pets (at my parents house) very much. That's how I got Chip! When I moved into a bigger apartment, I wanted to get my first doxi (ALWAYS wanted a doxie) and named him Dale! And somewhere along the line I got Spike, my beautiful Beta fish. So now it is Chip, Dale, Spike, my boyfriend and I living in my 1 room apartment....imagine when we get a bigger place!! :party6:

I hope I never have to evacuate, because the back seat is going to be really crowded. Besides the girls, we have Caesar, our Senegal, and Alpha pet.
Then, there's Joey. My son called me one day and asked if I would take in a cockateil that was being abused. I told him I didn't have a cage for one....so he went out and bought Joey a cage, and we went over and got him. You can tell he is over being abused, lol He loves bells, and would be happy to have even more in his cage. He is a happy little soul, sings, whistles, dances aroud the bottom of his cage, and yells HELLO every time the phone rings.

I got Ying (white female) and Yang (male) together from a woman who has a lot of animals, but I can't say much for the care she gives them. I consider them rescues, too. Yang wolf whistles, says hello and sings. Joey taught him. He sometimes picks on Yang, and she corrects him when she has had enough.

Last year, I took in Skittles, the half Naked Quaker. She was rescued by the woman who watched my cockatiels when I went on vacation for three weeks. I had watched some of her birds before I went. Skittles was one of them. She and a male had been pets of a man and his SO, but when they broke up, he put the birds out in the garage with no ac or companionship because the new SO didn't like them. Skittles plucked. She also developed obsessive compulsive behavior. Well, I cured her oc, but it is too late to fix the feather problem. But she has a home with us, and no one is allowed to pick on her. She is not particularly friendly with anyone but me. This photo is from shortly after I first got her. She was still bloody in spots.

I call my little one bedroom apartment The Zoo.
Misha, my first born. Female cat adopted at 11 months old from the S.F. SPCA.
Next came Boots. She was adopted as a kitten from a private rescue, also in California.
They both moved across country with me where we picked up my two dachsie boys.
I've often considered moving into a two bedroom just so the animals would have more room :faint:.

Jacqueline, your 2 cockatiels, Ying & Yang look just like my 2 - Daisy is a grey and Holly is white and Daisy also wolf whistles at herself in her mirrors - very small bird world! My hubby works for Lowes and is a delivery driver and he delivered a fridge to a house and told the lady what beautiful birds she had and she said she inherited them and if he wanted then to take them home. We went and picked them up later that evening.
So we have the 6 doxies, 2 cockatiels and a crabby old cat named Tiger, she is pushing 18 this summer - poor baby, she hates every one! :D

04-11-2006, 01:34 PM
Ying and Yang were frustrating poor old Joey....having you know what :blushie: in front of him....way too often for his taste. I finally moved the cages around until the three of them were lined up....Joey, Skittles, then Y&Y. Now he can't see them, and I think he is much happier.
Caesar's cage is at the end of my couch.....you know, the one the girls and I share....and he surveys his kingdom from there.
Do you have any problems finding a sitter when you go on vacation? The woman and I who exchanged services lucked out. She was told that to watch her critters....which meant coming in and feeding them once a day...was going to cost her $1200. Uh...no.
Petey's Mom
04-11-2006, 02:28 PM
In addition to Petey the Dachsie, we have two cats: Hershey, solid black short-hair cat around 6 years old and Smokey, blue short-hair cat around 4 years old. Both cats weigh in around 12 pounds, so they are more than twice Petey's size...but shhhhhhh....don't tell Petey cause he thinks he is just as big as they are! He chases them mercilessly until the cat turns around and gives Petey a look and feints at him...then Petey turns tail and runs flat out for his mama (me). Hilarious!
Oh those are the inside pets...outside we have two more male cats, Sunshine and Roscoe, and one male dalmation, Pepper (10 years old). Hmmm....we seem to have a thing for speckled doggies.....

Boy, am I in the wrong business!!!
Yeah, pet sitters down here are ridiculous. And frankly, not sure I would trust any of them in the house. When I lived in St. Louis, we hired a lady to come in and feed and water the birds, take Gretch out and play with her, as well as feed and water her....every day....for a week and she only charged us $7 a day.
Here, they want a min. of $7 per animal per day to come in and feed a bird. Now, it doesn't matter if you have one or six birds in the cage. To put that tray of feed in there is at least $7 PER BIRD. Carol had 2 parakeets, 6 cockatiels and the 2 quakers. And they were going for three weeks. That was $1470. And then they wanted gas money.
I took a pair of cockatiels and the quakers. Her next door neighbor went over and fed the others. In return, she kept my 3 cockateils. Caesar travels with us. When we came back, I brought Skittles home with me, too.
Maybe I should advertise as a pet sitter? I could make my fortune at those rates, lol.

I love Jacquelines cockatiel pics! So cute! I had one for almost 20 years, and I love them so much!
Right now, I only have one pet. (which is a first for me in my whole life) I have a 3 yr old Ocicat named Nadra, and she is my ANGEL  Shes been really lonely lately, my mom was living with me for about a year, and while she was here, she adopted a cat named Lilly. My mom moved out a few months ago, and Nadra has just been so sad and she cries a lot now in my mom and lillys old room. Its been a 3 years since I lost my last dog, so I decided its time for us to get a new dog! I've spent the last year deciding what kind of dog to get, and settled on a dachsie! We'll be bringing home the puppy in a few weeks, and I really hope that Nadra will be ok with it! She LOVED my cocker, but its been a while since she was around dogs, and she gets scared really easy (shes very sensitive) so thats why we are getting a puppy instead of an adult dog, I think it'll be easier for her to handle at first.
My fiance is also getting a corn snake. Thats our deal lol... I get a dog.. so he gets a snake.
So our family will be increasing by 2 in the next few weeks! :party6:

For now I have Oscar and Buck. I would love to have a kitty!!! I keep looking at them when I go to PetSmart and I'm soooo tempted.
I have to be considerate though and when I visit the family - my little men go with me. They have 3 dogs (2 rescues - Topo and Sammy the dachsie plus Chloe who is deaf). Their daughter is in the process of looking for an Australian Cattle Dog breeder (husband's choice).
I think adding a cat to my crew would be over the top when I visit them!! :D

Well currently there is:
-Ponch, our doxie ofcourse
-Meowgo, my brother's rescue cat who he adopted when she was a year old. She had been in a shelter her entire life up until that point.
-Jenny, our creamino peach face lovebird
-Sephiroth & Cloud, two piebald gerbils my nephew rescued. They were NOT being taken cared of and were going to be thrown out when my nephew passed by and was asked to take them.
As of now that is what's CURRENTLY residing here, lol. Who knows what new animal will be brought in next

We actually have 2 parakeets as well as the 2 doxies.
Their names are Gemini and Snowball. We've had 3 others over time but they've all passed away now. It was very sad when the 2nd one died, he actually got hung, it was awful, he tried to climb out of the birdcage at the top and got stuck. The birds are actually my granddaughter's and I think they thrive on inattention. My granddaughter very rarely takes them out because the last time she took one out it died the next day and the one that was hung had been out flying the night before, so she's convinced that it's not good for them I think.
But she feeds them, gives them fresh water and talks to them regularly, and I think that's all they want.

This is a two sided question for me. There is now.
Now.
Skyler (blk/tan smooth dachshund)
Jesse (Choc/tan dapple dachshund)
Lea (Lee-ah), Aries and Sagitarius (our Dwarf African Clawed Frogs)
Before Jesse when Abbigail my cat was still alive...
Skyler
Abbigail (Maine Coon kitty)
Cricket and Little Bit (Parakeets) went to my Mom just before Jesse arrived
Ringo and Sunny (Canaries) Mom's that we were keeping for her while she moved
Gemini, Lea, Aries and Sagitarius (the before mentioned frogs, only Gem has passed on)
I'd like to brag a moment. These frogs usually have short lives in the enviroments of captivity. Gemini was 7 years when she died. Lea is just now hitting 5 years old and the boys Sagitarius and Aries will be 4 year old.
