He's volunteered to grill the hot dogs for the day. So we're going to be loaded down with grill ect...+ 2 puppers and pupper stuff. Going to have to fiqure out where to put our stuff. lol :dizzy: We are going to reserve a room at the super 8 motel in Kent who takes dogs.. 69.98 a night without AAA or 62.98 with AAA discount. I have got a pretty good feeling that Kyle is gonna wanna come for sure.

How far of a drive is Kent?

You're right....Kyle will definitely want to come!!!!!!!!!!

We're still 50/50 on going - it's a long drive with the puppers, but it would be SO worth it to see you all.

Lori - do we know exactly who from DBB is going (will use this as ammo with the hubby!)?

Cheers

I hope to come, haven't convinced anyone to drive me yet, and I haven't driven that far in a long time. May get brave and try it, shouldn't be over 45 min, I hope. Want to meet you in person Lori and thank you in person for helping me find Girrl and transporting her, and to see everyone's dogs. Also want to get Girrl (formerly Twistie) fitted for a Hug-a-Dachs. I won't be able to stay long, after resting up will leave again, with my health problems I can't do anything much for too long a time. What would be the best time for me to arrive, considering I don't dare stay long?

Put a lawn chair in the car, we'll get you set up once you get there. We are bringing the big umbrella so we a have nice shady place to sit. I will email you my cell phone so you can call when you are getting close and we'll be looking for you. Would love to meet you and see the beautiful Girrl again. Hug a dox will be there for sure.

I'm starting to feel the excitement building! It's getting here quickly!

My son, Kyle, said to me on Sunday...."okay Mom...2 weeks and we'll be hangin' with 400 dachshunds & their people!" He's very excited! Kyle...and 400 dachsies....his idea of Heaven!

Of course, with Zeke there, everyone else will have to fight for his attention! LOL

Can't wait!

I was wondering if there is a website that has any detailed info about the picnic. Was wondering about registration fees, any contests or activities, and if they were requesting food donations like they did last year and any other info of interest? I am still not sure if we will be coming, probably won't know until the middle of next week. Hope things work out, I guess I'm kinda like Kyle- 400 dachshunds - it's kinda my idea of heaven too!:D

blazeman

The info on the picnic can be found here (http://www.winc.com/picnics/). There are not registration fees. Hope to see you and the crew!

They are doing the food donation again this year. Sure hope you guys can make it. We are staying at the Super 8 just up from the park.

I am sooooo jealous. 400 dachshunds??? I'd LOVE to be there! That's incredible- I'd have so much fun!!! But why the heck do you HAVE to plan the NorthEastern Ohio picnic in North Eastern Ohio? DON'T they KNOW how far away that is from me? MAYBE half way. I'm going to have to write a letter... who's in charge of this stuff...

Seriously- I REALLY considered coming. There's some GREAT airfare from Orlando to Akron- but it just gets to tricky. I'd only be able to bring ONE of my three (I'd be all alone- D has a group project due on the 12th, and will be hollowed in all weekend)- and I could never choose just ONE. :(

And then, you add in the pup fare, car, and hotel- and it's just a little more than my poor college student butt can afford (yeah- I'm going to use that excuse UP to my graduation, dammit).

So I'm going to want pictures. And I mean, LOTS of pictures! Lots and lots! And I'll wave to you from the video feed (if you can get it going- and even though you can't see me! ;)). Just remember- SOMEBODY needs to tell these nutty people to plan the NORTHEASTERNOHIO picnic closer to CHRISSIE next time, okay?! :crying:

onebigmickeyfan
06-30-2004, 08:44 PM
They do plan a dachshund picnic closer to you "Dixie Doxie Picnic" in TN that was in April. I kept looking for you. Do keep in mind that you have some family in Ohio and you can always drive your silly butt to Ohio and stay here with all 3 babies. Hey by next summer you'll no longer be a poor college student and you'll be married. I will put you in the Mickey bedroom just to drive you crazy but I know D would like it.;)

Me&DappledDuo
06-30-2004, 09:04 PM
Oh, I was so sad to miss the TN picnic. :(

And I realize that my future DH is just NOT obsessed enough by his dogs to drive for more than an hour or two to be around a herd of them! Sixteen hours is just NOT gonna fly. :)

I'm going to have to work on him- huh? The nuthead MIGHT be curious enough to make the trip if he knew there was a Mickey-crazed lady on the other end, though- you've got that right!!

Seriously- this is the ONE time in YEARS that I've taken a REAL break from school- almost 2 full months! It's just so hard to travel during school- even just for the weekend (Engineering professors are still trying to thin out the pack by killing us with weekends of homework!!! ). I couldn't even make it to the FL picnic this year. I have NO fun.

Well, if I stumble into a gigantic stack of cash this week, or wake up beside a changed man- I'll let you know! And YES- by next year I'll be an official engineer. BUT... I'll ALSO be in GRAD SCHOOL! I know, I know- I'm insane!!! :circle:

So maybe- one day, years from now- we may get to meet. I may be prematurely aged by 20 years- school does that to you- but I'll hopefully still be alive. Am I pathetic, or what??

Now go on- go on and have fun. Without me. I'll...be... o.. kaAAAY! WAAAAAAAH!!!
*sob*

to the picnic this year:( Our vacation starts Monday and we will be going to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. And with other stuff going on it would just be too hectic to make the picnic. Next year Gary will be retired so hopefully we will be able to come. I know everyone will have a great time - take lots of pictures!

This is all my son has talked about all week. He is religiously watching the Weather Channel to be sure that it is not going to rain. I don't think I've ever seen him so excited about something! A park full of dachshunds will be like heaven to him! LOL

I'll be helping Lori out at her booth....so look for me there!

I'm guilty, too- it's like pouring salt on an open wound. I'm so jealous. SOO jealous. Oh well- I'll just have to settle with a day at the dogpark. I'm not likely to find 400 of ANY dog there- but four special dachshunds will just have to do.

I-71 toward Columbus, thru Columbus toward Cleveland

At or near Mile marker 209

This exit is a little strange you exit to the right and loop back around then loop around again to hit I-76 East

Follow I-76 thru Akron toward Youngstown

At or near Mile marker 33

Take Rt 43 North toward

You will go about 2 – 3 miles

After you pass Rt 261 you will come into a commercial area

Look for the RITE AIDE on the left

Turn left on Cherry St - just past the parking lot

Follow Cherry St until you cross the rail road tracks

Look to the left, the next drive should be the entrance to
PLUM CREEK PARK

LOOK FOR US we will be the ones with a DACHSHUND OR THREE

There may be a small problem with Winnie coming along, but I will tell you that Mom's beautiful little double dapple (TinkerBell) will definitely be coming with me....so my little guys might not make it but Tink is happy to fill in! LOL

I WISH I was going to be able to come!!! Unfortunately...with the barn incident and the massive work taking place, recruiting of help etc for this weekend, I am sure that the locks would be changed while I was gone if I decided to come... I am Sooooooooo SAD! :weep:

I hope EVERYONE has a GREAT :partytim: :party2:

The picnic was GREAT!

Who all did I meet from the board

Lori and Mark Zeke and Missy (and Maddie too... Lori will have news on her...).

Mary with isobel, Noah, Sara Peanut and LJ. They were all SO GOOD! Isobel kept putting her paws in the water... and looked like it was on "accident" when you asked her to move :D

Dana with Oscar and Tinkerbell. Tinkerbell was this year's Woody... she was the HIT of the picnic I think!

Yolanda and Gooseman! Goose is such a great boy. He took everything everyone wanted to give him.

Anita and Grrrl. Grrrl was her normal sweet self. Had plenty of Kisses for all!

I might be forgetting someone... Sorry :)

My boys are now dead tired... they slept the entire way home and are now on my lap. I don't think I will be up to late tonight :)

Hopefully next year... more can come!

with a 4 hour drive up....5 hours at the picnic and a 4 hour drive back!!! But it was well worth it! I was so excited to put faces with the names of all of those we met. My two kiddos (the human ones) were having a ball helping out with everything & playing with all the doxies. I haven't looked around for them yet, but Kyle took LOTS of pictures with Lori's camera, so there should be some great shots for all of you to see!

My babies were totally whooped from the heat & all the play and they slept all the way home ....so did Kyle for that matter!

Kyle loves Mark & Lori so much that he asked if they could be his God parents & he could go live with them if anything ever happened to me! LOL :D I asked him what Lori & Mark ever did to me that I should punish them that way! LOL

Well, I had a great time & I will fully look forward to next year. For all of those who wanted to come but didn't make it, plan ahead for next year....you just don't know what you're missing out on!

It was a wonderful long day fore me and 4 of my puppers. Started at 4 am withy the 6.5 hour drive, then the day in the park and ending with dinner with Lori and Mark. I think I got inot bed a 10 pmish.

Thanks to everyone for making me feel part of a large extended family and it wa so nice to meet every one. Regretably, I had to spend a lot of my time at the DRNA table and could not visit as much as I would have liked. Seems like every one was swamped with people wanting to talk about GOOSEMan or my Cart wonders (Weezer & SassY). Then my big girl Elsa stole the show smeels a lot of people did not know what a standard wheaton wire is.

Mary, Noah is doing so wonderful - you are a great Mom.
Lori and Mark were wonderful "hosts" and great dinner companions.

Mark sure to mark your calanders and plan on coming next year.

I loved meeting everyone and we all worked our behinds off. We loved seeing everyone. Dana's kids and Danielle's daughter are wonderful kids and I just love them all. Our board showed up in force and kind of shocked Colleen the other ccdr rep because everyone was offering up help. I told her we are one big family and we all jump on board if someone needs us. I am very very proud of my dbb family you are all fantastic folks.

Mark and I want to adopt Yolanda into our family, if you have met her and her fur kids you need to she is one wonderful lady with a heart the size of Texas.

have been discussing that very thing. Getting a Southern Ohio Dachshund Picnic Started. I think it would go over well. But we'd need lots of help to pull it off and we'd have to plan for next summer.

If anyone is interested in helping out and starting our own picnic by all means let me know.
