Hello all-

Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays!! We put up an x-pen this weekend for Chiefy. We figured we would get him used to it before actually locking him up in it today. He seeemed to like it, went in and out of it a few times during the day, even went on his pillow and rested for a few minutes. Today, we left him in there locked while we are at work. We are hoping there will be no accidents!!! He never had an accident while he was in his crate, but he had no room if he wanted to. I am hoping that he won't use one side as a bathroom and the other as his room!!! Keep your fingers crossed for us!!

Hi Loren,

I hope it all works out . . . I think you were wise to get Chiefy used to it over the weekend.

Good luck and let us know how it went.

Just found out my hubby has a concern. Wonder if any of you who have x-pens have had this situation. He is not worried about him messing the crate, he is thinking perhaps he could knock it over? Is this possible? (I know..anything is possible with a dachsie!!) <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm42.gif" border=0>

How big is your x-pen and how thick are the bars?

Keep us updated on how he does!

I got a midwest 36" high that allows for 16 feet and has 6 panels and a door. BTW...anyone who is contemplating getting an x-pen I highly recommend a door. Some do not come with doors and will be hard on the dachsie's back picking them up and out of the pen as well as the hooman's back!! As far as how thick the bars are...dunno..they don't look flimsy to me..but ya never know around a daschie!!

Day #2 and Chiefy has been a star!! YIPPEE!!! We do have a concern though unrelated to the x-pen. Chiefy has a limp, actually more of a hop on his right hind leg. He doesn't do it all the time, it's every so often. I know this sounds wierd, but it seems after he moves his bowels, his limp stops. Maybe just a wierd coincidence. Anyhow, we are going to have the vet check him out. Hope nothing serious. He is way too young!!

Thanks for the support. I'm real worried about the little guy. IT's amazing how we all become so attached in a short amount of time to these lovable guys.
