I am having some serious problems with potty training my new pup. Recently, I found that she has peed (more than once) in my laundry basket. Does anyone know if I can use Nature's Miracle in the washing machine? Will it work if it is diluted in there? Also, any ideas on what is the best way to get the urine scent off a hard wood floor? I did a search on those dog litter boxes and saw that some of you have used them but didn't see where anyone had much luck with it. Has that changed for anyone? I am about to lose my mind with this problem. I take her out and she refuses to go, I bring her in and she goes. Now Twix is thinking she can pee on the floor too---I NEED HELP!!

Don't think it will do any good in the washer, since it is an enzyme that needs time (like days/weeks) to work, Just wash them with white vinegar in the wash, that should do it.

As to the hardwood, vinegar will do the trick. It neutralizes the odor quite well. I have hardwood floors, and use it when I need to. You could use the Nature's Miracle, as well, don't think it would hurt the floors as long as you wiped it off.

I'm not certain if you can use Nature's Miracle, as I have never used it. However, I DO know that you can use VINEGAR on just about everything....the laundry basket, in the washing machine, on the floor, etc. Get a gallon of the regular old white distilled vinegar. It's inexpensive and really does the trick.

As far as the litter pans went.....ours has blankees and a pillow in it now. Jake loves to run and hop in it and snuggle in the blankets when I am working on the computer, as it is the only dog bed in the den (although we have numerous others around our home and they sleep with us).

I would start back at basics. Leash her to you if you need to. Put her leash on and use a clip (like climber's use) to attach the handle of the leash to your beltloop. Don't give her the opportunity - keep her in your sight.

When you go outside, stay outside until she goes. Have her on the leash and take your coat or whatever and plan for a long trip. Some people stand in one spot until the potty. With our guys, we found it was easier to walk from tree to tree around the neaighborhood so that they could smell where other dogs had gone.

As soon as she goes, PRAISE galore! Pick a key word for potty. We ask the boys if they need to "go potty." Then we head outside. We still remind them to "go potty" sometimes if they are taking forever. Then pick a key word to praise her for going potty.

I've heard some people say that it really helped their little ones to watch mommy or daddy go potty outside. I haven't tried this, but it sounds interesting. Of course, you couldn't have any close neighbors. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

I know vinegar works. I know simple solution says to put it on the spots and let soak 10 minutes before washing items in the machine and that works too.

I personally have a sensitive nose and the odor of vinegar and the perfume in simple solution gives me a headache. So I use OxiClean for just about everything. It is frangrance free and does the trick on organic stains (blood, urine, vomit, feces, food), and I've used it to get red ink pad ink out off a pair of my pants too. It says you can use it to clean wooden decks, but I'm not sure about wooden floors, as I don't know if it would harm the finish. You could call the company and ask them, if you want to try it though.

Okay, so I am kinda dumb...How much vinegar would you think I should use on a load of clothes? Should I dilute it before putting it on the floor? She also peed on the couch!! I watch her most of the time and don't know when she does these things. The biggest problem comes in the morning...I know she has to poop and she won't. I can spend up to 30 minutes outside with her and she won't go so then when I have to go in and get ready for work she goes. She is very distracted by the birds, squirrels, and scents outside. I don't know how to combat that. Recently, she has been refusing to even go in the grass, especially if it is wet. I think that is when the peeing inside got worse. She occasionally had accidents before and of course, we had the poop problem then. But now we have problems with everything and I don't know what to do. I thought maybe I wasn't getting the scent off the wood floors but that doesn't explain peeing in the laundry basket and on the couch. This also got worse after I had her spayed. Does that make any difference?

Krista--have you used Oxiclean on urine stains? Do you feel it took the odors out? I looked at that the other day at the store and wasn't sure if it really did what it says. Do you think it does?

One more thing...why are dachsies so hard to potty train? I've always been told that but I don't know why.

I use Oxiclean on the bedding and clothes in the washing machine and also in my carpet shampoo, but I prefer a product from Hartz called "Help" for my hardwood floors and for spot treating the couch and carpet. I used Nature's Miracle, vinegar, and everything else for years (I had one girl who was terrible about going in the house) and the Hartz "Help" seems to do a better job of removing the odor than anything else I tried. It is sold at K-Mart and comes in a purple bottle. Rena

its been a year since I had to clean up any urine, but I remember it working great on bedding and my cream berber carpet. I have used pet stain cleaners before and the OxiClean worked just as well.

I do think Oxiclean works pretty much as it says it does. I've been impressed with everything I've used it for. Brightening delicate white laundry, cleaning the toilet, getting the nasty smell out of the garbage cans and disposals, cleaning pet messes, cleaning ulpostery, used in the carpet shampooer, cleaning jewlelry, spot cleaning....etc. I buy it in 6 pound tubs at Sam's Club for about $12 and I think that is well worth it (walmart carries it too, but it costs more).

I really like that it is odor free, I don't need to wear gloves, and I can use it to clean a LOT of things. It can't hurt to try it, and if you like something else better for pet stains, you can still use the Oxiclean for something else.

I'll echo what Krista says about the Oxiclean. It does do what it says it will. Cleans things really nice. I especially like it in the laundy. I would bet it would get all the odor out of the clothes, etc. If you wanted to use vinegar in the washer, I'd probably use a cup or more in a large load.

as to the vinegar on the floor, I use it full strength on the spot. Wipe up the pee with a paper towel, then wipe the spot down really good with another paper towel soaked in white vinegar.

I have a spot that Dante liked really well in my daughters' room (real human kids <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm35.gif" border=0> ) I have been trying to get the smell out for a year. I tried oxi clean on the spot both in a spray bottle, and in my steam cleaner. It got the spot clean, but I think I may try the vinegar and put paper towels and the kids' toybox on top of it to draw anything out.

Usually if I catch the spot early enough, I can use the spray resolve carpet cleaner and get all the smell out.
