Today my family went to see a movie. When we came home, we found out that Timber not only peed in his crate, but in his bed! Why did he do this? We were only gone for 3 hours and he hasn't had an accident in months.

we have had about every problem with housebreaking imagineable with Jazmine, and the only explanation that really makes sense is that sometimes they just pee in odd places. it may be a good idea to check for urinary infections, just to rule out a medical reason. i believe that they pee for attention, in anger, fear, spite and for FUN too. this is just my opinion, but there have been times when i can only explain one of Jaz's accidents as it must have just been fun for her, because nothing else makes sense. if the peeing in the crate continues, be sure to rule out any illnesses with your vet. shay and Jaz

but don't bother with the vet thing unless it happens a few more times. Probably Timber was enjoying all the holiday entertainment and such and suddenly he was left alone - just like a kid he was disappointed to get back to an old routine.

Hi, I agree about the peeing anywhere just for fun or spite or whatever. Maggie is over a year old and is housebroken, but the other night she slipped off, jumped on our bed with the brand new comforter and peed! My husband had already turned back the covers earlier that night, and she got under the covers to do it. We didn't know about it until 11:00 that night when we crawled into bed and felt a big wet spot!!

The reasons behind sudden dachshund housebreaking failures remain shrouded in mystery... Farfel, who is 8 1/2, has one peeing accident at the major weather shifts every year--when it first gets really cold and when it first warms up again. Although he is TOTALLY housebroken, at these times, he's likely to walk into a room where I am and squat while looking at me. I've never been able to figure out why this happens or what's going on in his little wiener brain at these moments, but you can set your watch by it. I wouldn't worry about Timber's accident unless it's repeated; if it is, a vet check is in order to rule out urinary tract problems. And if it persists, you'll have to reinstate your original puppy housebreaking measures. But if it isn't, just chalk it up to the strange dachshund brain...<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm25.gif" border=0>
