Well Mitzi has been doing pretty good at housebreaking. She has only a few accidents in the last week or so. If we miss her outside look she'll go on her papers. But here recently she has used the bells we put up. She is so cute when she rings them. She'll go up to them and sit with her nose in the middle and shake her head back and forth making them jiggle. There is only one problem - she loves to go outside and will use the bells making us think she has to do her business when she really just wants to play. She loves the snow!! And the freezing cold doesn't bother her at all. We don't have our yard fenced in yet so you can see that this is a problem. But at least she gets the idea!!

Hi Shonda, and congratulations Mitzi . . . it sounds like things are mostly on the right track. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

I'm so glad to hear this..especially that she likes using the bells. Henry ignores the bell and Jakey keeps ringing it when he is hungry!.....kids!

We kind of tricked her. I saw one time that she was at the door and she wanted to join our other dog outside. I opened the door which leads to a small porch where we hang the leashes. She went right over and nosed her leash. So we started to hang the two together but now she'll go to the bells even if her leash isn't there. Such a smart doggie. hehehe

A bad joke keeps going through my head. "Who's that little dachsie?" "I don't know, but her face rings a bell!"

For the last few days (actually since Tuesday) Mitzi has slipped back into her old ways. She won't tell us when she needs to go out and then she won't use her papers. I'm thinking she is rebelling because we all have left her at home in her kennel and she isn't to happy about it. We all were home during the holidays now the house is empty and Mitzi is confined once again while were gone. Hopefully she'll get back into a routine.

I am sure she will, Aug is a bell dog too. We are lucky that he prefers to use the bells. Friends and family can not believe that. They say "who is ringing the bells?" We just say it's Mr. Aug..... He has to go outside.
Aug loves the snow too!

Mitzi is getting back into the habit of using her bells but she also is still trying to get away with going inside and just playing out side. Too bad she is so cute cause it makes it so hard to make her mind.
