Willie has finally figured out that he is supposed to 'do his business' outside all of the time!! He was 2 years old in at the end of November (black and tan standard). His first year I was home with him. I was recuperating from a serious illness and thought at first that his housebreaking problems were more about me missing his cues etc. I would faithfully take him out regularly and still.... still.... there would be messes in the house. When I returned to work, he was, at least, using a designated spot that I had prepared for him. I tried everything... and I faithfully checked this site for hints and tips. I discovered that it was a fairly common dachshund trait. Gradually I discovered when I returned home from work that the messes were less and less. However, if I was even a few minutes late, there would be something waiting for me. I'd walk into the house and he'd look at me like it was my fault..... that if only I'd been on time it wouldn't have happened. Today I realized that it has been about 2, maybe 3 weeks since there have been any accidents in the house at all. It came to me as he came up and looked and me and barked and sauntered over to the door... then gave a 'hurry up' jump and bark! I expect that there may still be the occasional mistake... and he'll convince me that it's my mistake.... but dare I say it? I think he's housebroken.

Congrats and I'm so happy for you Our Rusty will be two in the middle of July and we are still hoping. His two little brothers haven't had an accident for quite a while but unfortunately their older brother still has a way to go in that department. I'd just be thrilled if he quit marking After hearing about your success maybe there is still hope for us. Keep smiling and enjoy your success.
