I know how much our dachsies love attention but sometimes you have to give them something to occupy them. What do you give them?

Simply put, KONGS RULE. Otto reamed the Molocule ball a new treat hole, it wasn't big enough for his tastes and he had no patience to work the treats out, so he just gnawed the hole till it was bigger.
Mostly nothing. They're either getting attention from us, sleeping or occupying each other. :)
We do try to get marrow bones as a treat for them and a break for us once a week (or as often as we can find them). :circle:

When we leave, I'll stuff Penny's Kong with a little peanut butter mixed with some of her food if I don't have anything on hand. She loves it no matter what's inside. And if we're somewhere in the house and she gets really quiet---we know that she is tearing someone sock apart. LOL I guess she occupies herself. :)

Can we vote more than once?
the person posting the poll opts to allow multiple answers. :)

Sorry..I didn't know I could do multiple answers.:(

Stuffed Kongs when we're away. Stuffed squeaky toys, hard chew bones, nyla bones, a stuffed puppy, and of course our loving kisses and hugs. Her favorite lately is a stuffed squeaky frog, although it's becoming a tadpole because she is tearing the legs off (the two front ones are missing).

So, I am assuming I can vote once?? No offense to anyone, but I know you have to decide ....how many? Not a big deal but my answer is a split one....:) I am going for it...hehehe..even if it is once.:)
and many, many people miss the Allow Multiple Choice check box when posting the poll.

Mark,
Can we change it at this point?

One loves balls and all love the chew hooves. I don't care as long as they are happy!:)
It is the one feature that can not be changed in a poll. It's OK though . . . .DBBers can answer *other* and offer their explanation.

I didn't mean to cause problems....sorry! I already offered my 'other' vote. I am good with that. Thanx and again....sorry.
No apology is necessary. :)
Of all the polls where multiple answers were not offered, this is the first where someone brought it up so that it could be discussed and that is a good thing. People like us who have more than one Dachsie, we always need multiple answers as they all all different. By bringing it out . . . . all DBBers are more aware of the option.
Since this one has the *Other* as a possible choice . . . no one will be left out. :jacks:

My boys are addicted to durable nylabones. At last count (to see if I needed to put more out), we had 8 bones for 2 dogs. But it has to be just the right amount of chewed, so we needed all 8. Sometimes they want new ones, sometimes almost completely chewed ones, etc. We must keep them in several stages of chewed or there could be trouble!
They also like stuffed Kongs, but only get these for special occasions.
As for stuffed or rubber toys, they couldn't care less.

Thanks Mark....I am not a person who likes to make waves...in anyway. I hope this does help out with the options.:)

Zor loves to play with the catz. Ok only one really puts up with him.
Con loves anything that can be thrown even if we aren't tossing it.
Ivy could care less, let her sleep. But she does love to eat anything and if it is a chewy thing at times I will take it from one of the others to give to her and give her the already chewed one. Sounds gross but she likes that better.
Chewy well that's his name. Anything anytime anywhere anyhow will do. ;)

all things stuffed and squeakie. Zeke likes the hedge hog and the bungee cow they are his. They will work over a stuffed kong. Even casey will work over a stuffed kong and he dosent like toys..

I try to leave as many chew toys around as possible, otherwise she has found my couch, chewed a small hole and now delights in removing the stuffing. I find it simply amazing how much trouble a pint-sized delight can get herself into.

I needed multiple choices - stuffed Kongs and soft stuffed toys. Primarily Kongs, however.

My guys like it all! Rubber toys, chew toys, Kongs, squeeky toys, balls, ALL OF THE ABOVE!!
I take the kong toy, put a slice of cheese in it, microwave it for 10 seconds, then put it in the freezer for 4 hours. It takes them hours to get all of the cheese out! Great to keep them occupied!

Toys, Stuffed Kongs and Stuffed Eland-marrow bones (stuffed with cooked eland and frozen). Keeps them busy for hours and eland marrow bone cannot be chewed into smaller pieces that can be swallowed (way too hard). They also keep each other company...

Rawhide chewies in our house when I have a foster (which is almost always). Everyone will switch around with rawhides, Kongs cause fights (Heidi, of course, saying 'THEY'RE ALL MINE). Valentin and Heidi do get Kongs when it is just the two of them.

Paul, I LOVE your idea with the cheese in the Kong! I've got to try that soon.

WOW. Not one person answered the ball that dispenses treats!! Well you guys gotta try that!
I take some kibble from the daily ration and drop a few kibble in the "big ball" and my pie girl will squeel until blood comes out my ears. Then she's off!! Bang bang BANG around the house. Few more kibble and she just keeps going like the whirlwind. Lots of exercise and poops her out.
Sometimes when I'm washing dishes I'll give them a container, like a margarine container, clean, put a kibble on the floor for them to see, and cover it with the container. Busy busy. Change the size and shape of container and exercise their brain too.
Again, all kibble from their daily ration. Please remove container when you aren't supervising in case they want to chew that up and swallow parts. If it's not nailed down, they'll eat it. :faint:

Lucy is too busy hiding her treats rather than eating them, she plays with her toy by herself. Two or three times a day a throw a toy down the hall way for she loves to fitch.:Sun2:

Zach loves chewies such as bully sticks or something like that. He got a kong for Christmas. I attempted to put that kong stuffing it in, but I dont think he likes that much. He likes it without anything in it. I might try Pauls cheese idea...he LOVES cheese. He likes to play tug and fetch...but that requires someone to play with him.

for milo, graci is actually my secret weapon! Since I havent gotten him a kong yet all I have to do is put them together and they play and play! But when graci doesnt want to play, I just tether him up to the leg of our table and put some toys down, and he plays with his toys himself!

Usually they have a vanilla raw hide or a bullie. I like to give them stuffed Kongs too. No furry things or they get ripped into a million little shreds.:Sun2:

Chewies are the key, if you need a quiet moment. For the most part my doxies are good, quiet, etc. but with this new pup around everything is moving in a faster pace. "Who has the chew or toy?" is the question around this town, everyone is always worried about everyone else even if they already have something in their mouth. So, for some quiet time chewies work!
