View Full Version : What kind of water do you give your furkids?

I give my furkids bottled water and also water that has been filtered from an independent company. The independent company president said that he didn't like tap water, but bottled water is so expensive, that he started his company and filters tap water 1000X more than the city does and 100X more than the bottled companies do. He also filters more stuff out than the city does.

The reason I asked is because my co-worker was telling me about her friend who had a poodle that was always sick until she started giving her poodle bottled water.

You can have multiple choices if needed.

our tap water is pretty decent, but when we use bottled water, so do our pets

Lately I've been using bottle water that's in the fridge. Since it's hot, I figure they need cold water. I put in tap water also.

system that needs the drinking water filters changed at least once a year. In the summer, I always add ice to the girls' water a couple of times a day, also from filtered water ice cubes.

Our tap water isn't bad - no funky smells or weird colors. I don't have a problem drinking it or giving it to the furkids. Although, if we're out and about, we do bottled water just because we're not familiar with other town's water.

For those who believe bottled water is always better is is one article similar to many others I've seem that gives some cause to wonder about what you are drinking http://www.nrdc.org/water/drinking/nbw.asp I've seen other articles indicating some companies just fill their bottles from the municipal water supply then charge a price that even now far exceeds the price of gasoline.

I'm lucky we are the first users of our water much of it coming from the western slope diverted by water tunnels and ditches to our local treatment plant. The big controversy here the past couple of years was whether or not to stop adding fluoride to the water. The final decision for not at least was to continue to add it. The only time we have yucky water is when they flush the lines each year which loosens up all the sediment rust and other goodies that accumulate in the lines over time.

We have a filter right on the tap. It's what we drink, and what Pippit and Penny drink.

We do the tap water here...it's actually very clean and fresh. But, when we travel, they get bottled water from my tap as a change upsets their tummy.

When I used to go to Detroit with Isobel to see my dad who was dying of cancer, Isobel would not touch their water as it's soooo high in chlorine you could acrually smell it as it ran from the faucet. I had to run out and buy her a gallon of bottled. Every time after that we brought our own from home.

I use tap water. Our town has artesian wells and I think the quality is very good. They post an analysis for all the residents each year. Barbara :flower:

We do drink bottled water at times. Like when you can smell the chlorine in it. But then when we travel bottle seems to be the best for the dogs especially. But did you ever notice that if you are at the dog park and have water down the other dogs bowl of water tastes better. I always take a couple of jugs along and it always ends up grunge. Yup Con plays ball and gets dirt in his mouth and then drops the ball or toy in the dish before he drinks. Yuk! so we go through a lot of water.:flower:

I found a new trick. If I put some Fruit 2 O flavored water on Butters' dry food, he eats it.

He gets bottled water at grandma's and tap at home. See why he likes her better?

it comes from the fridge door and we have to buy a filter for it so I assume I voted correctly ~ home filtered water.

I give mine tap water. Now Rumble LOVES drinking from our pool, even after the water is shocked. Don't know why he likes chlorine so much! But then he likes to drink from Natasha's toilet too. :circle: So, I try to get her to close it every time. And it doesn't matter if I have fresh water in his bowl.

Is supposedly some of the best water in the country so if its good enough for me its good enough for them.
I take bottled water if we go out of town though'

I do tap at the moment, but I'd do bottled if my husband would let me.

I give all the critters in the house, birds and dogs, bottled water. I started when we moved from St. Louis....mixed tap with bottled, worked to straight bottled, and stayed with bottled when we got down here and the toilet smelled like it had just been cleaned.....and it hadn't. Not good for drinking, but hey,.....the bathroom always smelled clean, lol.

I do drink the tap water to make coffee unless it really smells like I am doing laundry in the kitchen, then I go bottled for that, too. When we travel, it is strictly bottled because no one needs tummy upsets.

Even in as small an area as Ft. Myers, Cape Coral is.....the water tastes different from zip code area to another. Go figure.

I drink it straight from the tap so do my babies. Except when I have to take them out of town then it's bottled. :D

Actually, mine get both - we have a 750-foot well that supplies our house with water, so tap water is fine. If we have an excess of bottled water, and I have it close by, I'll put that in the water bowl. They don't seem to have a preference, except when I give them "sardine juice" after their walks - they BOTH scarf that down REALLY fast! Smells awful, but they seem to love it. I use that to get my non-water-drinking girl to drink more fluids. I also add water to her kibble with her meals.
UPDATE: Our well pump died recently so we hooked up to "city" water - it tastes and smells awful (chlorine!), so we all drink bottled water now. Not cheap, but at least it tastes decent.

We use tap water and hear ours is very good. WE just started adding Willard Water to it and they seem to be drinking more. :D

We live off of well water that is crisp and clean, so that is what Graci gets. but when we go somewhere I always put a bottle of water in the car with us for them.

We do tap water but use a water fountain with a filter. Our tap can get nasty at times.

My fur-kids drink well water...it is oh so good. They also get bottled water when we travel.

I voted for tap water as that is what we all drink. When we started training out of town we found we had to take water for Josh because he would not touch the water there even when he was panting. I guess they do know the difference. We just bottle up our own when we travel now and that keeps them all happy. We always have water bottles in our fridge; I don't like to drink water unless it is cold. I also put in their bowls when it is hot outside. Auggie likes to bob for icies!

Lucy & Lola only drink bottled because it is what we drink!! They actually like to try and drink it out of the bottle itself as I am trying to pour it in to their bowl!! I think its because they see us drinking it out of the bottle.. maybe they think it tastes better!! Once in a while they will get water from the filter in the fridge door... but that is only when its hot (cause it comes out VERY COLD!). :D

Our boys drink filtered water....filtered from our fridge at home and Culligan water at grandma's house. If we're out somewhere, they'll get bottled water. I'm very picky about my water, so Buster and Jake get the good stuff. :D

Mostly we feed the pups bottled water - sometimes, when a quick gulp is needed, we'll give them tap water - BUT since we don't drink the tap water (the water condition is too hard) then they don't need to drink it either! :Sun2:

We have a PUR water filter thing on our tap, so that's what Mocha gets. If we're out walking I bring bottled water with me.

This reminds me...hon pointed out how harsh our water must be because of all the deposits on the faucets:faint:but right now we're all drinking it until I can get one of those reverse osmosis (or whatever it is) things installed when we change the kitchen faucet (it's got so much deposit on it that it doesn't move all the way):faint:

We have a water cooler with filtered water. They get the same water we do -- I made a mistake and put tap in it one time and they wouldn't drink it. I finally realized that I gave them tap and once I changed it they drank it up.

Spoiled rotten children! :Sun2:

Cartridge System that filters water is all under the sink with a separate faucet on the sink. Great Tasting water is where he gets his water and its available at the big box home improvement stores.

We have our own well and the water is top notch..so the girls either drink what comes from the fridge door(filtered and refrigerated) or tap, or bottled when we travel..
