Today I got a call from a lady in Georgia who saw my ad about the male dachshund I found in Dallas. She didn't realize I had found him back in June, and she was hoping maybe the one I found was hers... sadly it isn't.
I feel so badly for her though, she's a wreck and doesn't know what to do. She's not very internet savvy, so I told her I'd try and get the word out for her and also give her some contacts in Ga. to help her.
She and her husband were driving from Daytona to Atlanta on I-75 Monday evening, and somewhere between Valdosta and Tifton, Ga. her 1 1/2 yr. old red male got out of the car. They didn't realize for awhile and when they tried to backtrack and find him, they had no luck. She went back Tuesday, but found no sign of him. I told her she needs to get the word out that she's looking for him, so I'll get some #'s of Ga. Dachshund Rescue people and maybe they can help. Her email address is GA0821@aol.com. If you have any suggestions for her, please contact her.

Boy, I hate AOL!
Roobyrocks, I sent an e-mail to these poor folks, using the addy you posted, and it came back as nonexistent. Can you double-check and make sure this addy is correct?

Pamela, I know what you mean about AO-Hell!
Try this - GA0821@AOL.COM. That's a zero (0) after GA, not an O.
The lady said she's 300 miles from where they lost him and by the time she drives down after work, it's almost dark. She is planning to go down there Sat. I think.

RR, I tried it with the letter O and the "number" zero. I tried it in all caps, in all lower case, and in caps/lower case. It comes back every dang time. Of course, it might just be that AOL is having one of its famous "burp fests," where it simply spits out everything that comes in.....
Anyway, please tell this poor woman not to forget, when she's contacting shelters, to also contact vets in the area. AND, if there are any local radio stations, she should get on the radio to make her plea. A friend of mine lost her (brand new, and thus not wearing a bit of ID!) dog the day after she brought her home, and she was amazed at how willing the radio folks were to let her get on air and describe her dog. (She found the dog after a week!)
These poor people--I really feel for them!

Weinergal, what a time to have aol problems! I forwarded you the original email from her so maybe you can reply to it... I just sent a test email to her with GA0821@AOL.COM and so far it hasn't come back undeliverable. Let's see what happens now..

I'm from Georgia , about 45-50 minutes from Tifton. I called the shelters, but so far no luck. I'll keep trying and hope I find out something for her. Was he wearing a tag with her home number or the number of her vet??

I passed this onto the Flynns -GA DRNA members. They said they would contact her and do what they could.

I posted a message on the DRNA list, but more info about the dog and the owners names would be helpful.

No, the dog didn't have a collar on. She says he is 19 months old, about 12 lbs.
Tanya, if you could contact her that would be great. I'll email you her phone #. I think she's going down to that area today.
Thanks Krista for passing on the info.
