Yesterday in Shellman, GA 24 dogs were rescued by the Albany Humane Society. Shellman is a very small rural area where everyone knows everyone...or so you thought. This woman, son and her young daughter lived in a trailor with 6 or so dogs inside and the rest in cages outside. This person (don't know name) was a "breeder" who sold her pups to...guess who...pet stores.

The dogs, Bassetts and Bull dogs, were left abandoned near starvation. They had wounds and broken bones from fighting. No food no water. Finally...someone called about the poor dogs. Why they waited so long is beyond me. The animals were walking skeletons and some actually could not walk because they were so starved. Though our Director of the Humane Society is great and will bend over backwards to place these dogs, our shelter is a kill shelter. These dogs are 30 pounds underweight!! I knew these places existed, but I didn't know they were so close to home! Anyway, our shelter workers are nursing these babies back to health and loving all over them, but if you know of a rescue for Bassetts and Bulldogs, please pass this message along. I could not find one here but I'll keep looking too. The shelter is always full and with 24 new additions...well...you know. Just terrible what people will do.

The shelter is:
The Albany Humane Society

BTW...the daughter has been placed in care of the state and the mother and son are missing.

I don't have time right now to do much searching but one promising lead for the Bassets is: http://www.beaglesandbuddies.com/links.html
Can you check out some of the links from this page?

For the Bull Dogs the following looks like a very good place to start: http://www.thebca.org/rescue/index.html

I just love the search tools at: http://infoseek.go.com/ they often let you locate resources with little time involved.

OK I'm off work now and was able to check out some of the links from the Basset site. Good news http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/jacks.gif I found a site for Basset Hound Rescue of Georgia. Go to http://www.ccmi1.com/bhrg/
I hope they can help out.

Good luck,

Tom

the Ohio Basset Rescue is very active and has a website. http://ww4.choice.net/~basset/

This site has listings of rescues breed specific and all breed. There is a listing of all by state, and then at the bottom a listing by breed. http://www.muttart.com/humanelink.htm

Tanya,

I'm a little late seeing this, but good for you for getting involved. I don't think anyone involved with rescue can be ready for the attrocities. I applaud Susan, aka, Weinergirl, and you for getting involved. We are the only chance these pups have.

Take care!

Just an update on the Bassetts and Bulldogs. The director of the humane society said that she has been contacted by the Rescue organizations and it looks like ALL of these dogs will have a place...either a new home or with the rescue groups!! Thanks again to all of you who gave me the urls and passed my message along.

Tanya,

It's so nice to see a happy ending. I'm glad everyone's efforts are paying off. Thank you for getting the ball rolling. Also give our thanks to the Humane Society Director for their support in this matter. It sounds like the rescue people in Georgia are as active as they are here in Colorado.
