I made the most ridiculous mistake and believe me, I'm paying for it. I have been planning on switching Chloe and Fritz to an all Innova diet. They have always had Bil Jac dry and have had Innova wet for about a month now. Well, we ran out of Bil Jac and so I just ran out and bought a big bag of Innova dry on Friday and fed it to them for dinner Friday night and so on. Well beginning Sunday morning at about 3 am Chloe started having diarrhea and hasn't stopped much since. I didn't get to sleep until 5 this morning because I was taking her out about every hour. Fritz's stool is a little soft, but he's fine. I am not particularly worried about dehydration as I have been giving her regular drinks of water out of a glass, which is my little princess's favorite way to drink and is never refused! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif I have also been giving her ice cubes. I am monitoring her H2O cafefully.
I called the vet this morning and she recommended Pepto 1/2 hour before feeding. I also ran out and bought a little bag of Bil Jac to slowly wean them off of it mixed with the Innova. If it's not too late to bother, but I figure it can't hurt to back track and attempt to do it right. I feel so stupid and bad. I knew the right way to make the switch and I didn't do it.

My question: Is there anything else I should be doing for poor Chloe's belly??
Thanks. Marissa

You might try adding a little canned pumpkin (just pumpkin without sugar or anything) to her meal. Pumpkin helps to firm up diarhea and also eases constipation. Obviously you would need the first use. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Eye yi yi, I hear you! This exact thing happened to me when I switched from Pedigree to Innova! My dog had such serious runs we ended up at the vet. My vet gave me some pills, I cant think of the name of it, to settle the stomach issues. It worked well. It took about two weeks for the runs to stop completely and Poor Metro was in terrible distress! Innova is very rich and filled with many oils ( good oils!) the stomachs cant handle so they expell the food to quickly at first. In a couple weeks the dog will become accustom to the food. Over all, Innova has kept my dog from getting constipated, he now eats all his food instead of being finicy, and, he has not vomited once since I switched foods. It was very worth it.

Well, I switched to 50/50 Bil Jac and Innova. Chloe is feeling 100% better. I was worried, but I am such a nervous doxie mom.
Thanks so much for the tips. They definitely helped!

Give them some pedalyte to prevent dehydration. Oscar loved when I gave me some when he really sick a while back.
You can try adding some rice to food to firm things up.
Hope they are better soon.
