Some relatives gave Peaches a baby Winnie the Pooh teething ring. Is this safe for her? Has anyone else tried this? She loves it, but I am scared she might bite off the pieces. So, for now I am just watching her closely with it.

Alot of dachsies are big chewers. It is durable enough that they won't chew through it in a matter on minutes?

What is it made out of?

I usually give Harley a kong or a durabone.

Nope, she couldn't chew through it in minutes... was just surprised at how disfigured it was after only a few hours. Not sure what is made of. I do have a durabone for her, but haven't given it to her yet.

I wouldn't recommend baby toys for dachsie puppies- despite their sweet little faces, they have a STRONG jaw! Their jaw structure is actually very similar to a Doberman's.

The durable Nylabones are safe with most dachshunds- the little size is probably okay for her now, but you'll want to graduate to the Wolf size and up eventually. These dogs can CHEW.

And- if you just think the idea of the teething ring is cute- they DO make a cute one for puppies! I know I've seen it in the Petsmart/Petco stores- it looks like the Preschool branded key rings for babies? Alas- my pups were no longer pup-pies... so I didn't pick one up. But they seemed very sturdy- much more tougher than human baby toys need to be.

Lots of toys that are appropriate for similar sized toy breeds get ripped to shreds in moments with a dachshund puppy. You have to be very careful- latex squeaker toys NEVER last with my guys. :sarcasti:

Our baby toys didn't last long w/Cricket....we were lucky he only ate a few before realizing his toys lasted longer. I wouldn't suggest allowing yours to have a baby toy. Like everyone said, they aren't as durable and your pup could choke. I understand baby toys to be for teething not actual chewing although babies do do this. But the toys were really meant for a baby to gum it to death.

Well, Angel especially. My advice would be take a picture of Peaches with the toy to show the relatives how much she loved it... and then remove it and give her something you don't have to worry so much about:D .

That is a great idea! She looks so cute with it, but it just doesn't seem safe.
