While I don't make biscuits I have made what I call liver brownies. I'll have to get the recipe from home for the exact amounts but the basics are puree liver combine with corm meal ( know corn is not that great) and whole wheat flower add garlic powder to suit the dogs taste (my guys like it fine w/o the garlic) bake the mixture in an oven set at 350. I cut these up into chunks about the size of pencil erasers and I must say every dog in Franks's obedience class wants to do their stuff for me.

Thanks.

BTW, corn has a bad rep, but unless your dog is allergic, there's nothing wrong with it UNLESS it is used as a major filler in dog food. Dried corn only has 2-4% protein, so it isn't really a good source of that.

But my dogs have always liked a piece of buttered cornbread as a treat.

Hi Jen:
Great idea, the bread machine thought. I have saved that page. I guess what you mean is let the machine do the work of mixing the dough, then roll, cut and bake the biscuits.
I also have a dehydrator and used it to fashion small training treats. I use it to dry bits of liver and thin slices of beef hot dogs. They do not get enough to harm them, just enough for them to think they have done something _great_.
Thanks again,
Roxane

I finally got my dog liver brownie recipe:

Puree 1.25 pounds of raw beef liver

Add 1 cup Whole Wheat Flower

Add 1 cup Corn Meal

A dash of garlic powder (optional)

Pour combined ingredients into a greased glass baking pan. Bake in a preheated 350 degree over for 20 minutes.

I generally bake longer than called for and wait for a slight crust to have formed over most of the top more like making brownies than cake. You can use a heavy duty blender to puree the liver but be careful or you can burn out the motor. A food processor should work better. The liver will look about like chocolate pudding when it is ready to have the other ingredients added.

Once the brownies have cooled use a sharp knife to cut into desired size pieces. For dachshunds I like cutting them about the size of the eraser on the end of a pencil. This means breaking or cutting them into smaller pieces after the initial cutting since the brownies will be much thinker than the desired size for training treats. Place the cut pieces in plastic bags and then put the extra in the freezer. These treats can get moldy if left out too long. Generally they will stay fresh for about a week in the fridge.

Good luck sample them if you have more nerve than I do.
