We left for Expo/Round-Up on early Wednesday morning. We arrived and set up our "camp". Thursday was Expo, no points for Expo because it is just for Miniatures, 11lbs and under. I got Charity and Ozzie back from the people who showed and finished them in MN. Ozzie acted like he didn't know who I was, I had only had him for a few months before he went to Marty. Charity was excited to see me. I had Charity entered for Thursday and Friday, Ozzie for Saturday and Sunday. I had Truffles and Tanqueray entered for Thursday and added Keith for the rest of the weekend. There was nearly 300 entries for Dachshunds (all coats). It was the largest National Miniature show to date. I didn't expect to do a thing all weekend. I went to support the clubs and visit with people I knew and meet people I only knew from email lists. Truffles and Tanqueray are wild cats. Truffles needs to mature and Tanqueray is just plain wild on a lead. They both go nuts when you get them out and put them on a lead. They LOVE everyone and Truffles can't resist putting her face in every other dogs face to great them, check their teeth for cleanliness, she jumps on everyones legs wanting to great them. She never stops moving and couldn't be happier in the crowds. I had not had Charity on a lead (myself) for almost a year. She was bred the week before she left, to a very nice male that her breeder wanted used as a stud. She was excited about showing. The Expo judge is always someone who is wanting to become a dachshund judge and they are Dachshund Breeders. I took Charity in for Best of Variety and she didn't do anything, but the judge was allowed to give 4 award of merits and Charity got one of them. I don't know how many BOV competitors there was, but there was quite a few. Friday was Round-Up, it is a "Normal" Dachshund Specialty, but usually only Minis are shown and NMDC gives prizes for the Miniatures that Win and Weigh In. I believe there was 14 wire dogs entered (or that showed up) Keith took Winners Dog for a 5 point major under Anne Gordon. They held all 3 coat BOV until the end of the day. I took Charity in and much to my SUPRISE, She took Best of Variety. At the end of all the Best of Variety competitions, the three winners (one for each coat) get to go in to compete for Best of Breed or AKA Best In Specialty Show (BISS) after one is chosen, the Opposite sex dogs are brought in (3) to compete for Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Specialty Show. Charuty got Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Specialty Show. NMDC Scores points for "Minis" that compete at Round-Up for the Highest Scoreing Smooth/Wire/Long, and then the Highest Scoring Miniature, All Coats. They tally this up and then give the award at the Awards Dinner. Charity got the Highest Scoring Miniature Smooth AND Highest Scoring Miniature All Coats. Needless to say I left expecting NOTHING and came home with a Light Purple Rosette for Charity's Award of Merit. A dark purple Rosette for Keith's Winner's Dog (Out of the Bred-By class), a Dachshund Pin, and gift basket full of goodies, a Purple and Gold Rosette for Charity's BOV win along with a basket of goodies, a Bigger Red and White Rosette and some cushy dog bedding for Charity's BOS to BISS win, A HUGE Turq/Yellow Rosette for Highest Scoring Mini Smooth as well as a wood plaque with the NMDC Medallion and Another Turq/Yellow Rosette and Wood Plaque(with Medallion) for Charity's Highest Scoring Mini All Coats. I will be getting an 8" Bronze Plaque from DCA for her BOV win. (they didn't come in in time for the show). I believe Charity beat 282 dachshunds when she took BOS to BISS. I think it quite safe to say that with the Award of Merit on Thursday, my weekend was made. The 5 point major on Keith and Charity's numerous wins on Friday was MUCH, MUCH more than I dreamed of and made my weekend so High that I can't even discribe the feeling. Keith's momma Rosie, took a 5 point major the day after round-up 2 years prior to her son honoring me once again with something that has never happened, even once, to many long time breeders. I am truly Honored!!
THANKS for listening once again to the Greatest Brags I will probably every have!!
