View Full Version : I'm still in shock

I logged on to the chat room last night to chat a bit. I heard a funny noise coming from the living room. I thought it was low-la having a doggie sneezing fit.
It was my husband having a seizure! I called 911/EMS and we got him to the hospital. They did some preliminary tests that show that he has a brain tumor. We are in a complete state of shock. He had no previous signs that there was anything wrong. He is only 44 and in otherwise perfect health.
They are going to do an MRI today so that we will have a better idea of what we are dealing with and what the treatment options are.
The strange thing (as if things could be stranger) is that Low-la kept pestering him all afternoon. She kept whining and barking at him for no reason. When I found him having the seizure, Low-la was laying across his legs. She really kept him from rolling off the couch in onto the floor. When EMS arrived I had to pick her up and take her to grandmas because she wouldn't move.
I'll give an update as soon as I'm able to get back home tonight. In the meantime will you guys send Duwayne some rayz? Thanks.
Tracy

Tracy! I wondered where you went last night- figured you just were watching quietly, like some prefer. How scary for you both- this sure must be a trying time for you.
Tumor is such a scary word- but there have been some amazing medical advances recently in their treatment and removal. You and Duwayne have tons of well wishes coming your way- and plenty of rayz.
We're all here for you- if you need to talk to someone, there's almost always someone around. Please take care of each other and keep us informed.

Dear Tracy,
Sending furbaby hugs and kisses along with healing prayers for Duwayne.:rayz: :rayz: :rayz:
Low-La is a typicaly but amazing gir. A true furbaby:angel:  for realizing daddy needed her.
A brain tumor is not as sacry as they use to be. There has been tremdous strides in the medical treatments. My olderst daughter is only 37. She has a brain tumor under the base of the brain pressing on the optic nerve. Her surgery is so "routine" it is not scheduled until 22 Sept.
Please keep us posted adn we will continure to send prayers.

Good girl, Low-La, you did a great job. I, too, have heard that dogs and cats are able to let their owners know when to expect a seizure. They are also able to detect tumors and cancers.

Wow! I saw the MRI pics. Talk about making something real...... It is a bit larger than they originally thought. It is operable and the Drs. are stressing that it should be done as soon as possible. Duwayne is of the opinion "just get the damned thing out of my head - I have to go to work" :po'd:
They are almost 100% certain that it is benign, and the only reason to fool with it is because it has become large enough to cause neurological problems - The doc said that he wouldn't guarentee that there would be no more siezures after the operation, but most likely they would stop.
They have told him no driving and no climbing ladders. He's torqued off about that. He is a carpenter by trade and he does tend to use both a vehicle and a ladder quite frequently :)
Again, I can't say it enough, Thank You for all the prayers and kind thoughts.
I'm going to catch up for a few then get some very needed sleep.

Lots more :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: come to you and Duwayne for a quick surgery and full recovery. I must say, I love his attitude - that sort of stubborness and spirit will make it much faster for him to be back on his feet - of course, he'll probably drive you and his nurses crazy ;)

Tracy, that is great news. Apparently the MRI showed that it was a simple, compact mass, and not one entwining itself all over the place?
Anyway, I agree that you should operate as soon as possible. Just because it is benign does not mean it is not growing. Benign just means that it is not doing the Borg assimilation of other tissues and organs. It had to get there somehow.
Anyway, I will keep him in my prayers.
Patrick

we meet with the neuro-surgeon at 8:30am this morning. We will then know all the answers to the questions we have had that the other Drs. have not been able to answer.
His family is coming down for the surgery - I can't blame them and to be honest, I'm ready for some family support/company even though it has only been a couple days. I am to call them as soon as we get out of the meeting with the Dr.
Duwayne is doing well. He is trying to keep things as normal as possible right now, which is good. And his attitude is very positive.
As soon as I can, I will post the results of todays meeting. If they admit him today I will be staying with him so I'll be away from my computer until I don't know when.
Thank you again for all the thoughts, prayers and rayz!

Duwayne is already HOME!! They let him out this morning. He is doing great - in a little pain, but otherwise just fine.
It took 2 hours to remove the tumor. There were no major complications and the pathology report came back clear. When I got to see him about an hour after surgery, he was in the I.C.U. so I figured he'd be pretty groggy and out of it - NOT! He was bright eyed and bushy tailed and Bi:po'd:hing because he couldn't have a steak!
They moved him to a regular room yesterday and then released him this morning. He is not allowed to do anything for the next 30 days - no driving, bending over, lifting, nothing. He can't even shower until Saturday (Phew!):fainty: I'm hoping he'll consider a bath......soon.
So, I thank you all for you thoughts, prayers and kind words. If prayers are answered, they sure were this time.
