Our dogs were recently rescued from a puppy mill so they are new to being treated like a member of the family.

We are new to dog ownership as well.

We want to get them toys but we don't know what they will like. I got rubber toys but they don't play with them (they run from the sqeaky sound). I got rope toys which they play with in their crate.

What else can I get so they will play?

It sounds like as PM kids they never learned how to play . . . so how 'bout something easy and non-threatening, both in appearance and sound - like a racquetball (Duck Butter, also a PM girl, always loved hers and has had it 7 years now). Maybe rolling it away from them slowly will help them learn to play. Eventually, I think they will get the idea.

Let us know what you come up with and how they progress,

Mark

I'd suggest a Kong Toy... It's rubber and great for chewing... and you can fill it up with food. What dachshund can resist it? You can get great details about it at www.kongcompany.com (http://www.kongcompany.com)

If like most mill kids they are on the thin side then a buster cube may be a great toy. They will get some extra food and learn to play at the same time.

Hey Mark-

WHat is a raquetball and where can I get one? 7 years is a long time in a dachsie life to still have a toy. Chiefy either kills toys at a rapid rate or gets disinterested rather quickly. The only things I find that Chiefy keeps focused on that we don't have to play with him with is a nylabone, or a gumabone. (Figures..always for food!!)

Hi Loren,

You can get them at any Sporting Goods store. They are the ones that people use to play Racquetball ( it's just a rubber, air filled ball that is larger than a golf ball and smaller than a tennis ball).
