Hedgehogs are SO cute! And aptly named Prickles is no exception to the rule. :)
How do the pups like her? :fierce:

How sweet! I can't help but think how quick it would be before my two monsters were trying to take Prickles on!
My money would be on Prickles however ;)

What a darling little hedgehog!!
I don't know anything about hedgehogs as pets - are they affectionate? Do they play with toys? Do they like dachshunds?

Oh my goodness she is precious. Is she a good pet? I have never seen a hedgehog in person so to speak. Do she like attention? Do you hold her and love on her like the puppers? Inquiring Minds want to know.:D
That little face is just soooo sweet.

Prickles is adorable. I've only seen hedgehogs all rolled into a ball. She's very photogenic and looks so tame. Barbara :flower:
What a precious little critter, thank you for sharing her pic. ;)

Has anyone seen this show? It is pretty cute. Rather simplistic, but cute. (He has a Dachshund named Dixie that has "grown up" on the show. :) )
Anyhoo...the episode I saw Sunday morning had a segment about hedgehogs! They are sooooo cute! If I had the room I would consider getting one. There was one at the local humane society a couple of weeks ago.

It took a lot of work to get Prickles as tame as she is. I couldn't even pick her up the first month we had her. She constantly "huffed" and threw up all of her spines. He spines are very sharp...just like a needle. Now she is a great pet. She doesn't crave attention, but she does like to snuggle up for a nap and will sit there while you pet her. Hedgehogs are nocturnal, so she likes to hide during the day.
Prickles is even an olympian. She competed at IHOG (International Hedgehog Olympic Gymboree) and she placed second in the hurdles. We were extremely proud! She loves receiving blankets, so all I did was hold her blanket in front of each hurdle and she leaped over each one! They can't be trained, so it was pure luck!
Her and Peaches aren't the best of friends. Peaches is too wild for her. She doesn't like sudden movements, and the way Peaches flails around and barks really doesn't make Prickles happy. The first time they met, Peaches ran right up to her and Prickles spined her in the nose. Peaches ran as fast as she could and leaped on to my lap to bury her head. She was fine, but pretty surprised. I think once Peaches calms down they will get along fine. My in-laws have a shitzu that Prickles doesn't mind at all.
As for playing, we have a kiddie pool that we put in our living room and she chases crickets around the pool. If we throw a toilet paper tube in with her, she'll try to hide under it and it gets stuck on her head. That is hilarious! We can stack up little foam blocks and she knocks them over. We think she is a blast, but it took a lot of patience to get to this point.
Thanks for the nice comments! :)
Tanya
P.S. - Blazeman, NO more hedgehog squeaky toys! That is just wrong! ;)

Oh my! She is talented as well as cute. Horatio... move over. Can Prickles come to Waco to be be Hedgehog forcaster for Groundhog day? Horatio is never right and I have no idea why they decided on a hedgehog! His face is not as cute -- in fact he looks like one of those Booda Hedgehog toys after my kids got ahold of them.

What kind of hedgehog is Horatio? Prickles is an African Pygmy. They are much smaller and cuter (in my opinion) than a European hedgehog.
Also, we don't celebrate "Groundhog Day." Feb. 2nd is Hedgehog Day around here! Here is a little info on that:

My guess is that he is the European variety... I could not find him listed on the website, but he has a dark face.

How cute! I never thought of those things as pets. actaully, the only one I have ever "met" is Sonic the Hedgehog from the Sega games!:D I doubt he would do good in our house w/nutty Bella, Cricket the curious and my two heathen human kids! Looks like a good pet for a calmer household!

Yep! He is a European... definitely not as cute!

Very cute but you know at our house hedgehogs (stuffies) are the only stuffies that have a chance of staying alive and they are the sole possession of Tanner my alpha boy. Once in a great while Frank will risk his life and try making a mad dash with one of the hedgehogs.
