Hello all,

Well I'm going to ask for a few car rays. yesterday morning on my way to work I go rear ended. Crazy as it sounds it was while in line at a three way stop (tee intersection). Long line of cars backed up the full block and we were over half way down the block moving ahead again when bang the guy in behind me just plowed hard into my card (97 Ford Escort). His bumper of course went right up over the top of mine smashing in my trunk buckling it and pushing it tight again the rear window glass. Bot rear fenders as well have damage and the bumper cover is history. The crash also took out his radiator. At least I had my foot firmly on the brake when hit so I didn't get slammed into the car in front of me.

The other driver was issued a ticket. I had the cops check my car and sure enough my rear lights were out no break lights or turn signals. Since the body shop I have dealt with in the past was only a little over a mile away one of the officers volunteered to follow me there so I didn't have to have the care towed. The body shop got my lights working so I have the car back. Their preliminary estimate is $3,663 but they haven't started looking for used parts yet. They said from what they could tell don't be shocked if the insurance company wants to total the car:(. Great just what I don't need is car payments. The car was in good shape only 55,000 miles. I'm waiting for the adjuster from the other drivers insurance company to meet and look at the car. If they won't agree to repair it I'll call in my own insurance company to see what their adjusters have to say and go from there.

Oh yes as far as myself and the other driver no real injuries. I had a little neck stiffness and since I didn't really want to have the paramedics and an ambulance called I took one of the police officers advice and visited a doctor yesterday afternoon just to play safe. The good think was it got me to finally get a primary care physician:). The doctor said I might get a little stiffer over the next couple of days but didn't really expect any long term damage. Pretty much what I thought. One thing that did make me decide to go to get checked out was the baseball cap I was wearing when I was hit ended up on the back seat of the car after I got hit.

So any ray a few car repair rays that it will get repaired and not totaled if you can spare them. If I have to replace the car I guess I'll have to go shopping for a new 30 year loan on the house to pay off the current one a home equity loan and a few other outstanding bills.

That's too bad! It's amazing how one stupid little thing can have such an impact on your life! :(

:rayz::rayz::rayz::rayz::rayz::rayz:

I got rear ended last week, but luckily it just left a little scratch on my bumper.

Sending rays :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: not just for the car, but for you!

As one who has had recent accident experience, it's really a good thing that you got checked out physically! I thought my knee was hurt in the wreck, but they wanted me to have my neck checked, and yes I got an awful whiplash (but then I hit someone at 40 MPH downhill on ice-so the impact was something). And even though I felt okay initially, the docs told me I'd really feel it the next couple of days, and they weren't kidding! OUCH!

Use ice!

As for the car, seems those Forda are tough, but it's not likely the insurance company will want to give you money to repair it. You can check out the value online. I did and State Farm gave me $100 over the best value I could find for my Mustang. Just don't let his insurance company settle until you are satisfied.

As for car payments...:banghead: :upset: :cussing: Yup my car was OWNED for some time, and now I've got payments! It sucks, but what are you gonna do? At least I got an Escape, and it's much better in the snow here.
I wish you the best, and hope you feel better very soon!!!

Grrrrr!!! I just hate it when stuff like this happens! I hope you got an apology out of the guy- people really need to learn to watch the ROADS when they're behind ton + machines!

I'm so sorry, Tom- that's just not fun at all. How you managed to keep a '97 down to 55K miles is amazing! I sure hope you get it back.

So... here are mind melding rayz for the insurance guys (always a joy to deal with insurance, isn't it?)...

FIX the car :rayz:
REPAIR the car :rayz: :rayz:
DO NOT TOTAL the car :rayz: :rayz: :rayz:

Good luck, Tom!

Tom so glad you are ok. Having been in two rear end situations, I know that you will feel the pain tomorrow when you get up and then for a couple days afterwards. In weird places too. Like your jaw maybe. Also, see if the insurance co can give you this option if they decide to "total" it: sometimes they will allow you to "buy" back the car for a small sum (couple hundred bucks) and cut you a check for the difference. Then you can have the necessary repairs done to the car a little bit at a time. Car notes are a pain. We finally got down to just one in our house and have two years to go! After that, I vow "NO MORE NOTE". Yeah, right. Anyway, glad you are doing fine and if the pain gets too much, go to the doctor. His insurance company is liable for ALL of your medical expenses that resulted inthe accident. Of course, that is IF he has insurance....:yeahfine:

Good luck! And hope you feel better! Glad the boys weren't w/you!

to hear about the accident. I'm happy you weren't badly injured, but it makes you realize how fast life can be turned upside down. It's so crummy when you have a car you really like and have kept it in good condition, some dummy has to come along and change everything. I hope you can salvage the car, but if not, I hope you can at least get a good deal on another. Sending rays for you and your car! Barbara :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz:

Tom, Glad to here you are Ok. Sorry about the car, but they are replaceable.

I was also hit recently and the insurance company totaled my car. I bought it back and had it fix and made $600.00 in the process. Check it out.

Tom, so sorry about the accident and car, but as everyone else noted, we're just so thrilled you are okay. Yes, you might stiffen up a bit in the next few days. Ice, warm baths and perhaps schedule a massage for next week.

Good luck with the car and do let us know!

Cheers
J

Well I'm suppose to meet with the other persons adjuster tomorrow so we will see what they have to say and take things from there.

When I woke up and first got up this morning I felt great not aches at all but after being up an hour or two they started to set in. Pretty mild still on a 1-10 scale I would say 1-1.5 but then I've been told more than once that I must have a high pain threshold. I would say so far it's no worse than taking tumble running or at low speed on a bike.

To think you take care of something, like a car, and have low mileage, and someone's carelessness messes up all your finances - not to mention body aches! :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: on the way, for your car, your pain, and the insurance company to make you happy! Julia B.

What a mess to have to deal with. I'm glad you weren't hurt more than you are. :)

Ford rayz from my Explorer Sport Trac to your little Escort. :rayz::rayz::rayz:

I was going to get an Escort many years ago, but ended up with a Tempo (which someone kindly totalled for me 8 years later by making an illegal left turn). The Escort is a better car than the Tempo, though - hope you can get yours fixed!!!

Many rays for you and your car, Tom! Be sure you get yourself checked out well, and don't settle insurance-wise until you do - those accidents that don't seem to have hurt you can really come back to haunt you - I know. I had a stiff neck from a car accident and was told I was ok - that was over 20 yrs ago, and I still have problems with my neck, So be careful!

Oh no! I'm so glad you're ok! Maybe you'll get enough money out of the insurance that you can pay cash for another car, I know it's a long shot, but it's worth a prayer! Here's sending you lots of :rayz: for you and your car!

I feel your pain, Tom. I got rear-ended in May. I was hoping my car would've been totalled, but I finally got it back a little over a month ago. The repairs to my car were over $12,500- over half the value of the car. The car will never be the same, and no one in their right mind would want to buy it after all it's been through. Now I'm suing the other party's insurance company for diminished value for the equity I've lost. If all goes well, I'll be able to pay off the difference between what I still owe on my note, and what I could sell it for. I'm not going to make anything off of it, mind you; it's not an effort to gain anything; just break even.

Well the other drivers insurance adjuster looked at my car today and said they would most likely recommend totalling it:(. They didn't know et what they will offer me for it but I did mention I would also want to know what the salvage buy back cost would be. I've contacted my insurance company and am going to have them take a look and see what they have to say/offer. I think at this point unless my insurance company says that the care is repairable the best I an hope for is to buy it back and hope the difference is enough to get it repaired.. Doing a little quick web looking today I'm not sure even if I go out and get a new 30 year morage that I'll be able to pay off all bills current loan plus other expenses let alone have enough left over to buy a new car.

Sigh some how I'll get through but the boys and I will be tightening collars and belts even tighter tan they already are.

Sorry to hear about your accident. But my father always says about accidents " Car is just a piece of metal and can be fixed. Humans are not."

Oh, Tom, I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. I had someone hit me in my '96 GMC small truck and did over $2,000. worth of damage. I was worried about them totalling it, too. It's paid for and only has 77,000 miles. I was lucky and they fixed it. Hopefully, they'll do the same for you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident!! At least you're okay. I'm going car shopping today. What car am I driving right now? A '96 Ford Escort. Mine has MANY more milles then yours though.
