okay the two kittens we just got, snickers and keyla, are great if you dont count the part were they attack your feet, jump and eats your hair while you are trying to sleep, and one wont eat.Since we got Keyla she hasnt eaten much, she eats a couple of bites, and then leaves.we first thought that they had a pecking order, but then we found out that they dont.:yeahfine: if you pick keyla up you can feel her ribs all around.i can even count her ribs, hang on.....dang it she is squrimy.anyways, we got them last saturday and they are about 8 weeks.right now they are getting Sophista Cat kitten food mixed with adult food.(dry) then they also get the kitten food mixed with canned food and a little bit of water. but she still doesnt eat!help please!

Oh, poor skinny kitty! Cats are very very very picky about their food. I've personally never seen one turn down a little canned tuna, though- you can try the water packed stuff, and drizzle a little of the "juices" on her food. Making the food extra mushy might help, too.

It's very unlikely that she'll starve herself- she'll eat when she's hungry (providing they ARE old enough to have been weaned). Just keep trying.

And don't worry too much- kittens that young don't have a whole lot of fat on their bodies, like puppies and people babies. Feeling the ribs isn't so bad. SEEing the ribs- that's trouble.

Oh, and has she been wormed? Some intestinal parasites can make an animal less than hungry (thinking about worms in a belly makes ME pretty un-hungry, too!)

If she's acting very lethargic, you and your mom might want to call the vet and ask for advice. Sometimes a young animal just can't balance their blood sugar.

And hey- when are we going to get some pictures of this zoo of yours?! :flower:

we really don't know anything about their health records, all we know is that they are negative for feline leukemia.

Kitten(s) refusing to eat is not a good sign. My suggestion would be to take them to the vet for good physical examination, a fecal check and appropriate vaccinations needed for a kitten. When was the Leukemia test done did they also include the Aids test? Please continue to feed canned "Kitten food", I would skip the dry for now unless you wet it down with water so it is easier for them to chew. Please no adult food as they are only 8 weeks old. I would not feed tuna or milk as this tends to give them diarrhea. Good luck and keep us posted on how they are doing.

But doesn't every kitten chase after your feet and attack them and attack your hair when you sleep???

Sounds like 2 very active kittens. Hopefully they will start eating and put some weight on soon!

They sound so cute attacking your feet. As long as it isn't me that they attack it is cute!
But I would get them back to the vet to check the one out especially. When they do the tests sometimes the results doesn't always come back accurate at first. I would watch them very close. Just remember thought to if you feed them the tuna etc they will think that is there main diet for life. Plus they really do need to be eating the kitten food with all the extras right now. You might want to try a differnt brand or two or three. Actually to much variety will give them dieareaaaaa too.
Maybe the vet will be able to help you out. Good luck I hate to think of the one little one getting to thin and end up sick.

Did she get to the vet today, Julie? I think that it's time. It's ALWAYS a good idea to get any new pet in for a vet visit right away- especially puppies/kittens. Though rescue groups do tend to do well with vet care- sometimes check-ups slip through the cracks.

Kittens need to be on a vaccination schedule, too! I hope she gets to meet the vet soon- she might not appreciate it much at first (vets aren't much fun!), but if there's anything wrong- the vet is the one who'll fix it! :)

Julie it has been 3 days since this kitten has been off it's food, and it appears to be getting worse not better. Kittens not getting enough nourishment and water will dehydrate rather quickly. Please believe me a kitten this age is not a "wait and see" attitude. As I suggested earlier you need to take her to the vet as soon as possible or you may lose her!!

Is your kitty doing any sneezing? It could have distemper, which can be a killer of kittens. Also, almost every kitten will have worms (they seem to be born with them!), so it they haven't been wormed yet, they need to be.

:rayz: :rayz: to Keyla. I hope she is just being a picky eater but I wouldn't rest well until a vet gave me the ok! Please let us know.

If one is sick, it might be something communicable so a vet visit is certainly a good idea. Barbara:flower:

well we found out that her front teeth are just breaking the gum. so what we are doing is giving her just canned food.we can deal with the dirreah.her "sister" is getting fatter and her teeth had already broke the gum when we got her.so what we are going to do is see how the canned food goes, and if it gets worse then we will try some kitten milk that you can buy.sadly we don't have any money to take her to the vet yet.but if she does get worse, when my mom gets paid,or when my stupid dad finally sends a child support check then we can take her to the vet.we already had to cancel the dentist appointment for tomorrow, and we barely have enough to buy school stuff.:( so hopefully she does get better and thanks for all the raz!i'll try to keep you updated.

p.s.it looks like shibaby is coming down with something too.:crying:

If it's contagious and it looks like it might be if Shibaby is ill. The rest of your cats will come down with it then they will all need vet care. Good Luck
