View Full Version : We're drowning!

We were supposed to get some rain from the "remnants" of Tropical Storm Gaston today. All was fine until about noon, when it started to rain. It is now 9:30, and 10-14 inches of rain has fallen in my local area. There have been countless tornado warnings (but no confirmed damage), and hundreds of streets flooded and closed. My local news has been on straight since 4:00 and is talking to people who are trapped in office buildings and unable to get out. Their cars have floated away and are now missing. The lobbies of their buildings are completely under water. In some places downtown, the water is almost 6-8 feet deep!

As for us, we've got about 8 inches or so of standing water in our backyard. Baxter had to be put on a leash and coaxed outside to pee (it's still raining lakes - buckets isn't even close). Bailey, on the other hand, had to have a leash attached to him to drag him back inside. That crazy little guy thinks the whole backyard is a huge swimming pool!

Shelters are being set up, mandatory evacuations are taking place, and it's still raining! The worst part of this is that it was all a surprise, we were only supposed to get a few inches or so.

But, we're doing OK, and neither of my boys had an accident today!

I can't imagine living near there! I hope all goes okay for you.

This is definitely abnormal for us. All the news people are talking about how it's the worst flooding they've seen in 25 years. Not a common occurence around here, and caught us all off guard.

AH! Rain, rain, rain! If you can manage to keep the tornados away, it sounds like you'll make it! But YUCK.

This is a rough season for the whole darn coast. :(

Stay safe, Jennie and the B pups!

We are just starting to get that rain. I had to drive home 25 miles from school in that ick.

So far no warnings here!

I hope everything is ok for you!!

Jeannie,

Maybe it is because I have lived on the I-95 corridor in VA for 25 years, but I am not surprised at all with all of the rain. It seem liek anytime a TS or H comes ashore in SC/NC taht we get slammed also.

My entire back yard is a huge pond. It is still pouring hard. Do you thing any of my dogs will go out -- no way. I am just thankful so far I have not lost my electric. Last fall with Izzy, I was without power for 7 days.

Take care of the puppers and keep dry.

I hope you stay dry. We have a lot of flooding here when it rains a lot and it's really scary. Keep us posted.

I am and I am OK, even kept my power. My back yard is a huge swimming pool and none of the dogs will go out. I have a large branch down in my back yard. Richmond got it worse than I did. Hopefully Jeannie will check in soon. I am 45 miles north of her.

We're OK. My back yard is also a swimming pool, which suits Bailey just fine. Baxter, on the other hand, doesn't want to get even a toenail wet this morning. I did manage to get both of them to go outside. I also have my power, and am already at work, where it looks like we got minimal damage.

We got lucky up here, Jennie - Gaston veered off a bit before it got up here, so we just got some showers. Of course, we had to get our two outside for a bit before the "poison drops" got here!

I feel for you Southerners. I was down in North Carolina a few weeks ago, right before that hurricane, and the rain there is crazy. It's so sudden and it's just huge downpours. When it rains in Buffalo, it rains on and off, seldom very hard, for the whole day (or usually days). Never that sudden, scary, can't-drive-in-it rain.

People want to talk about our snow, but there's always something weather related that the people in every part of the world have to deal with.

I hope the rain stops and your puppies don't have to get their feet wet anymore!
