Our dachsies sure love to get "new" toys! What I do is go to Goodwill or another thrift shop and buy cheap stuffed toys for the dachsies to "kill" and rip apart. Used stuffed toys there cost like 40 cents each.
Often I can find one or two that have squeakers or other noise makers inside.
Our wieners prefer the ones that make noise. Then after they rip the stuffing
out you can either restuff them and sew them up (I have sometimes) or just
throw them away. That way you are out 40cents instead of 4 dollars or more
for a rubber dog toy. And our dachsies don't eat the stuffing. I am always careful with the squeaker when they get to that and take it away ASAP. Here they are, after an hour of pleasure gutting the biggest catch they have ever had. It used to be a huge pink donkey and here it is shown reduced to a room full of plastic pellets torn from its insides.

That's definitely a good idea Bridget! And also, the Thrift Store is a good place to buy blankets for your little guys. I was in a thrift store once and saw a child's sleeping bag, but didn't get it. Now I wished I had, because Maggie just loves to burrow under her blanket. The sleeping bad would have been perfect for her!

The problem I have is that my little one eats EVERYTHING! Which makes it really hard to buy toys because she doesn't like anything but cloth or rope toys. Great idea, though. Will have to keep it in mind for my next pup!

I have been getting toys for Toby from the goodwill since day 1. I found out that Toby will only play with toys that are new to him. I have gone through tons of toys at a very inexpensive price. Actually any second hand store will work for him. I am able to take him with me to the local senior center's second hand store. There he has tons of friends (the volunteers) and gets to pick out his own toys. I found that toys I thought he would like were the ones he did not want to play with. So now he picks out his own toys and I am spared the decision of what will die next.
