Has anyone tried this with a dachshund? I see them in the catalogs and they look interesting. I just don't want to buy one unless I know more about them. Does anyone have one? Does your dog take an interest in it? Are they totally annoying?

I have the same thought. i've seen them again and again in catalogs and on-line and wondered how he'd take to it but not hearing of any members having it I didn't want to take the chance. Chiefy goes through toys like you wouldn't believe. He's down to his last one for now which is the Funny Ball by Pedigree. He seems to like it, but rapidly it is getting destroyed, he's peircing the rubber. It's amazing. I'd hate to be his enemy for those teeth would do some damage.

Hi Anita,

While you're waiting for an answer maybe you could enlighten me . . . what is it and what does it do? (wiggle & giggle no doubt http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif ) http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/confused.gif

Is there one online somewhere to see?

Thanks - Mark

I've wondered the same thing. I've seen them in pets stores and think they might be to soft, that Oscar might rip it open.

Here's a link to see one http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1311

A friend gave me one for Twixers and she didn't like it. It is too big for her to get in her mouth (therefore it is still in one piece) She goes after it when I make it "giggle" but you have to shake it to make it giggle and of course, she can't shake it. It doesn't giggle when it rolls across the floor. So, in our opinion, don't waste your $$ on it!!

My dogs really like plain stuff just your reg. run of the mill squeekies (last only minutes though) and chewies ... they LOVE chewies!! They also like those rope bones and plush toys (but they kill those too) Basically our dogs will kill just about any toy given enough time and opportunity...lol http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

I got one a few weeks ago. Oscar, who is blind, absolutely loved it. He loves balls and now he has one that he can actually chase around the house by himself. He hasn't torn it up or gotten bored with it.

Betty, however, is totally uninterested in it. I don't think she had toys at her old house and is still learning how to play with toys.

Hi Jennifer,

Which size ball does Oscar have. I've got one of the large ones and my boys just ignore it. I could ship it off to you when I'm sending out some other packager latter this month. Send me an e-mail with your mailing address if you would like a spare ball for Oscar.

There is also giggle bone now too. Might be easier then the ball for some to pick up. I'm thinking about getting the bone.

Well Chiefy will only play with his toys if we play with him. He demands all of our attention. Spoiled brat!!

Gunner destroys a squekie or a stuffed animal in minutes. Thanks for the idea on the wiggle giggle ball, we got him the bone, because sometimes he cant get his mouth around a ball. we should be getting it in the mail soon. Thanks again for the idea. I will tell you how it works.

Hmmm...The bone DOES sound interesting. Otis doesn't care for balls in general, even his jingle bell ball. Gunner's parents, please let me know how the giggle bone works out for you! Thanks!

I just ordered my wiggly giggly bone from the hearts united website. The small one was $9 with proceeds going to HUA.

I bought the wiggle giggle ball for the puppies but Pippin fell in love with it. I got the large size thinking he couldn't get his teeth in it but he grabbed it by the indentions and ate it anyway. It now has a big hole in it and is put up. Mine giggled when you rolled it across the floor.

Just come home from some early Christmas shopping (how organised, completely unlike me!) carrying amongst sooo many other things a wiggle giggle ball. Complete success!! Shelbie loves it almost as much as the hedehog formally known as Squeakie!! The great thing is it keeps her occupied and I'm not pestered to throw it every two minutes!! Pretty important this evening as its the very last Inspector Morse tonight on telly - let's see box of chocs, box of tissues, glass of wine, yep I'm all set!!

Definately 4 paws up from Gunner on the wiggle giggle ball. It lasted about 1/2 an hour without getting a small hole in the side, but he still loves it. It kept him away from our food for 5 minutes that has to be a record right there. hehe. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gifhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif

Well, I ordered my toys from HUA on Tuesday (the 14th) and they showed up at my door yesterday (the 16th). I couldn't believe how quickly they got to me. Everything looked really great and I'm so happy I ordered from there.

For those of you who want to be terribly hip, Oprah included the wiggle-giggle ball on her annual "Oprah's Favorite Things" show yesterday. It was right up there with $125 per bottle moisturizer and $40 candles....... http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/uh-oh.gif

Hi,

Have a question regarding the wiggle giggle ball. We bought the small one for Chiefy. Last night we thought we would give him a try at it and see how he likes it. Well..he went absolutely nuts!!! Dog seemed to have an extreme case of anxiety and stress. He did not seem to enjoy it but seemed to want tear it to shreds. His eyes became like a terror. ALmost as if the sound was like a mouse and he wanted to destroy it, like prey. My hubby did not like the way he was acting and took it away from him and put it in a drawer. Well..Chiefy saw it in the drawer, and started to cry and jump and do whatever he could to get it. Hubby took it and threw it out. The dog still was looking aimlessly for it and his face was so upset. It took hours before he calmed down. My question is...is this normal, good behavior (over excitement?) or perhaps showing some aggression? I was contemplating getting the larger one so he couldn't destroy it but hubby feels he may get even more frustrated because he wouldn't be able to destroy it at all. ANy thoughts on the matter?

Hi, Loren -

From your description, it sounds as though the Wiggle Giggle Ball aroused Chiefy's normal dachshund hunting instincts. His behavior was that of a dog who had found his "prey" and wanted to finish it off!

Because the "job" of most dachsies today is to be loveable housepets and companions, many owners don't realize what incredible and ferocious hunters they can be. When in hunting mode, they become very intense and focused, and they will whine, bark, paw, lunge, dig, chew, and do anything they can to get hold of the prey so they can dispatch it. They were originally bred to hunt, so it's part of their heritage.

If you don't mind having Chiefy destroy the Wiggle Giggle Ball, you might try giving him one again, under close supervision, of course. He will probably rip it apart until he's satisfied that it's "dead". If he gets too riled up, and refuses to leave the pieces, try coaxing him away with a tasty treat, and tell him what a good hunter he is. Of course, you might prefer to avoid the whole scenario if it disturbs you, but don't worry about his previous behavior - he's just being true to his dachsie nature.

Sounds like Wotan needs to send Chiefy a live woodrat for him to play with.

Dispatching is the best part of play-according to a dachsie!

Hey Wotan -

Winston here. What's a woodrat? Is that anything like the brown rat that comes into our house thru the hole behind the stove and drives me crazy? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/grrr.gif Mom got mad at me just because I chewed off six inches of her kitchen cabinet trying to get that varmint! Anyway, if you have any extras, I'll be glad to "take care of them" for you, heh heh http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/sly.gif

Dear Winston!

Woodies are great big gerbally looking rodents that smell musky, eat holiday lites, get into the Hooman's time machines and eat wires, and squeak really great when you shake 'em.

I got one behind the couch once.

Never did see any other big rats. We have lots of little micies...
