It was a long trip, only 3 days, but we finally made it to KY. We left at noon on Sunday, drove till 10, made a hotel reservation, got to the hotel, and they had made the reservation for the wrong night. They had no other rooms available. We found a hotel down the road from that one, we left the dogs in the car while we got the room. Dred locked us out by stepping on the door locks. We had to get a locksmith to jimmy our door open at midnight. Luckily he was staying in the hotel in anticipation of being close to the action that night in town. The hotel was disgusting, and the room hadn't been cleaned from the last occupants. They cleaned the room, and we didn't care that the floors were so filthy that the dogs got a rub down with baby wipes in the car to clean them. Pi got a goats head thorn in her foot in the parking lot and refused to walk until we'd left.

The next few days were rather uneventful, thank goodness. We stayed in Motel 6 the other two nights, and slept pretty well. At least the bathrooms were clean and they allow 1 well behaved pet. They didn't say anything about one extra dachshund, and I didn't volunteer. Pi barked all night at the strange noises, and at one point was barking at my Dad snoring. I was laughing so hard I nearly woke him up.

We got in around 11 a couple of nights ago. I'm still on Pacific time, so I'm up till 3 am and sleeping till 1 in the afternoon. My parents are hovering, glad to have me home and not giving me any breathing room. I'm having trouble with my cell phone, the company here doesn't yet use the technology that my phone does, so I have no signal unless I go to town. It's a pain in the butt. I'm exhausted and the paint fumes from the house are giving me headaches.

The dogs are just glad to be out of the car. They have quickly adjusted to having a huge yard, althought Dred, being allergic to grass, is horrified. Pi is loving it, she wakes me up at 7:30 every morning to go next door and see my brother's corgi, Shay. She loves sleeping with me, and Dred is such a bed hog, he's been relegated to the floor. His allergies are horrible, and he's up to 100 mg of benedryl 3 times a day, and his ears are getting infected, so he's getting ear meds twice a day. Everyone loves him, and is so amazed that he's so mellow compared to Pi. She's the little one with all the energy, and he's the big one that whines till you get out of his spot on the couch.

Well, I'm off to Cingular to get this phone situation sorted out. I'll be back when I can, I'm using Josh's computer, so access is limited. Hope everyone in FL is Ok!

in one piece. We'll have to set up a meetup day once you've settled in and I'll meet you half way with the puppers.

Glad you made it home safely. Poor Dred. You'll have to lay down some chips in a special area for him.

At least you're there safe and sound. Being allergic to grass is a real bummer - 100 mg of Benedryl is a whopping dose. Does he sleep a lot or does he still stay active. Barbara :flower:

Glad you made it! What a terrible first night! I am glad that the rest of the trip was less eventful. Poor Dred, sending allergy rays to him!

Glad to hear you got there safe. I remember one vacation when I ended up sleeping with the windows open in a motel room because there were such heavy gas fumes from the water heater in the unit. That was in the mountains about froze and got a very early start the next day. One other trip I decided the first place I considered stopping was too early drove on and couldn't find a motel. Ended up sleeping for about four hours in a rest area I pulled into about one in the morning. I had started driving that morning at 6 AM. I did make a few stops including several hours in Cody WY at the great art museum there.
