I think other people might have mentioned laser pointers for their dogs, but they are a great interactive toy. Badger goes crazy trying to catch the red dot and so does my grandma's cat. They are relatively cheap, and the jaws of death that most dachshunds have wont ever touch it so they last a very ong time. Plus you can use it yourself to point to things. Also, for us lazy ones who want the dog to get exercise but want to sit on our butts, all you do is hold the button down and watch them go zooming around the room. Have fun.

P.S. He also loves the toy where you pull the string and the toy vibrates. After about two times showing him how it works he would spend hours pulling the string to vibrate the toy.

My youngest son began the laser game with Otis. He loves it! Otis also tries to get the arrow on my computer when he is on my lap when I am working. This could lead to me turning in some very strange assignments to school!! I am also interested in the vibrating toy? The big question is...can it be chewed to pieces??

Just one quick word of warning especially if you are letting you kids use the laser to play with your pets. You need to be careful not to let the animal have a direct line of sight back to the laser. In other words don't let them look back at the laser if it is close to their eyes. Damage can occur to the eye if the direct beam of the laser is allowed to shine into the eye. That said they do make great ways to entertain some pets. Cats seem especially fond of this game. I've never tried it with Tanner but with Frank as soon as he figured out I was controlling the bean (less than five minutes) he lost all interest.

Best wishes,

You can buy laser pointers almost anywhere, mainly in electronic/technology stores. I have noticed that petco stocks them too. They are usually less then ten dollars, around six probably.

As for the vibrating toy, Im not sure how long the ones made for dogs last, the toy I gave him was part of a happy meal and wasn't exactly sturdy. However, since he seemed to like to pull the tail mainly, I think a fairly sturdy toy would last. (he only started chewing on the body after the tail fell off, but the tail was only felt and a vibrating toy for dogs would be sturdier.)

P.S. Yes don't point a laser pointer in anyone's eye, it could blind them.
