I bought Shana her first kong yesterday - but what filling do I put inside? I hate to fill it with cheese because my little girl is built like a little log and I don't think she needs the extra calories. What's not fattening, yet tempting? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/confused.gif I know, nothing.

There is a kong message, look back 100 days, that has a tons of ideas.
I'm sure Shana will love it!

Hi! I've heard of applesauce or lowfat yogurt. You can put it in the kong and then freeze it, so they have to really work at it. I use peanut butter, but once again, calories. The applesauce or yogurt might be the best bet.

Thanks. I found the kong post from 100 days ago and there are lots of good ideas. I'll try something tomorrow when I go to work and she looks at me pitifully with those big brown eyes. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/crying.gif Maybe a filled kong will ease the pain.

anyone know of things to put in the kong that are not messy cause I put Chiefy in his pen and it's on the carpet..just trying to avoid carpet mess. Peanut butter, applesauce, etc. will make stains. Any one have any ideas?

We use peanut butter in the kongs and haven't had any problem with carpet stains, as that is where our boys play with them (one of those....you expect me to put my bum down on the cold tile???? L@@KS). One possibility, which we do occassionally just because it's fun for them, is to put peanut butter in the kong and then to put their dry dog food inside the kong. I push the food into the peanut butter so that it doesn't fall out....and I haven't ever had a problem with peanut butter on the outside....plus the boys really have to work to get all of those yummies out.
Also, if you are still worried about calories, you don't have to fill the entire kong. We usually only put about 1-2 teaspoons inside. Like Mandy said, sometimes we will put some of their food with the peanut butter as well. My boss uses milk bones and breaks them so they just fit inside. His dogs love trying to get them back out.
