Greta and Baylea have a nice size fenced yard, mostly grass with both Redbud and Dogwood trees for shade. They love exploring the nooks and crannies. Except when it rains! But that is another story.
Night before last, during their last potty trip, they were exploring a small part of the yard, about 10 by 20 feet, that is a bit brushy and overgrown.
Immediately afterwards, as is her style at bedtime, Baylea plunked herself down on my pillow. We had our usual chat and she obligingly moved further down on the bed.
Next morning, once my eyes focused, I realized I was blushing, but only on one side of my face. Closer examination; yikes the dreaded Poison Oak!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/uh-oh.gif
Hubby is gassing up the weed eater. Sorry girls, sorry wildlife, sorry indigenous plants, the itching is driving me nuts!
Ah, the joys of country living,
Roxane

Oh No!!!!

Get the pink stuff out....calamine lotion!!! Did the girls get itcy too? Haaa haaa, I had to laugh at the part where you had your nightly conversation and she moved down the bed. That sounds like us. Dolly and I have a similar dialogue. "Where's mommy supposed to sleep?" "Idaknow" sez Dolly sweetly. "Mommy's sleep on the pillow, not doggers." sez I. "Well fine" sez she and shuffles off to sleep under the blankies.

Hope you feel better SOOON!!! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/blushie.gif

It's too late now but for the next time and for anyone else that comes into contact with poison ivy or oak.

This product WORKS!

Ohhh, Augie you are such a smart doggie! I never would have known the product existed. Even though it's nearing the end of the summer, they are getting an order from me.
Just wondering if I should order enough to wash the pillow case too! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif
Much, much appreciated information,

I always keep a small bottle on hand. With Augie now on a long lead he gets into a lot of brush.

This will take the poison oils out of clothing. I dried my hands out, but I'd rather use hand lotion than have a BIG problem a day or two later.

It's me - Shelbie and Mum! Sorry to hear about the poison ivy - how horrid. Nod of recognition about the bedtime "conversation" from over here. Do you guys get the groan as well "sno' fair Mum I was ever so comfy....mutter, grumble"<IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm22.gif" border=0>

Thanks Sonja, "Revenge of the Dachsies"? Hadn't given it a thought til now (scratch, scratch). Ah, yes, the groaning grumble, know it well, it is taught by older dachsies to youngsters, on both sides of the Atlantic.(scratch, scratch)
Now you tell me, Augie Doggie, that the medicine is going to dry out my skin? Age alone isn't doing enough damage? (scratch, scratch).
Oh well, this too shall pass.
Luv,
Roxane

Attention Augie! Made a Walmart run and found Tecnu. Even better it was a 2 for 1 deal, Tecnu and their other product CalaGel (anti-itch).
Interesting story about how it was developed. Won't go into detail but will say I won't be radioactive, once I use it.
Thanks again,
Roxane
