Started thinking about all the superstitions there are in Russian culture and discovered that some are international as a lady from Venezuela told me they had the same ones. Are you superstitious? And if you are, then what are some of them?
I always forget something to pack when we travel. But to return to retrieve the forgotten thing is a bad luck for the trip. BUT if you look at yourself in the mirror before leaving the house again, then it's better. :circle:

I'm a total hypocrite. I KNOW better than to be superstitious- I tell other people that they're being silly when THEY are- but I am a little bit, anyway. :D

I'm a LITTLE superstitous - but mostly about silly things like gambling (don't change your bet if you're winning - guaranteed to lose immediately).
 The usual, mirrors, ladders, umbrellas, salt, poles and clothes (if you put your blouse or whatever on inside out, never put it on right side at that time). Nut case I know!

I said YES. But really I'm a 'bit' superstitious. Not about everything. Just some things. No OPEN umbrellas inside!!!!

but at one point I decided to test some of them (I walked under a couple of ladders, opened umbrellas indoors, let a few black cats cross in front of me...) - and nothing went wrong that I could identify. At least, not at that time... you don't suppose all these hurricanes are the result of my failure to be superstitious??

That's it Kim. I figured out why we are having such bad luck with the weather. DH's best friend's parents finally moved to FL after 3 years of talking about it. I bet if they move back to CA and we get you to change your ways, we can get our sunny FL back on track!

I am to a degree. Only about things my parents taught me or said like: Don't take plants or flowers home from the funeral home or cemetary - It will bring death. Always pay for needles, knives, and salt. If you give a gift of a wallet or purse, don't give it empty- always put a penny in it for luck.
And my favorite! Shake your wallet at the full moon and you will have money soon! This works by the way:)

Mom looked down and found a penny. She looked up and said thank you Richard I love you too. I said what? Whe said when you find a penny it's someone from heaven sending you their love. For awhile after that I found a penny several times a week and each time I did I'ld say thank you daddy I love you. Well the last time I found a 5 dollar bill laying by the back of my car when I came out from shopping. So I guess dad was sending me lots of love all at once to keep me covered for awhile  . I havent found another penny in about 6 months.

Oh boy am I. It is awful too! My best friend Kim tells me I am LOONY! I do the typical salt over the shoulder thing if someone (anyone) spills salt that I can see. Never go under a ladder. Shudder at the thought of breaking a mirror. If a black cat crosses my path, I quickly say a prayer, do the sign of the cross ~ whatever. The irony here is that my father's ancenstor was proclaimed a "witch" back in the Salem days???!!! They finally figured out that she had epilepsy ~ which I think all the "witches" back them probably did. I am not what you would call a religious person but instead I am spiritual (if that makes sense) so anyway, I am a strong believer in bad karma. I try very very hard not to wish harm on someone because I truly believe it will come back on me 10 fold. My mom passed this one on to me (thanks mom) : I don't put utensils on top of a plate or bowl etc if they bowl, plate etc is in the sink. Somewhere, somehow, she has me convinced that that will bring you bad financial luck. Go figure? (I am gullible too, can you tell?). What else? Oh, well I do believe in ghosts to, but HAD planned to go to a haunted plantation last weekend. Crazy, huh? Ivan pushed our trip back to December but I am going to do it. So, yes, I am superstitous. :D
