Honestly now, which dog is really the "biggest" here, and I'm not talking just about size http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif This is Owen with his Bull Mastiff friend, Monroe. He was only 125 lbs at this time. He's now 7 months old and closer to 150-160 lbs http://dachsie.org/ubb/ksmile.gif

Hey Owen, this is Maggie - nice work there with that big doggie! My big sister Penny keeps bossing me around. Want to come visit us in Maine? You could make her stop picking on little old me, I'm sure! Ask your Mom, OK?
Hew Owen, this is Penny - don't listen to my sister. I only boss her around when she forgets to behave herself (you know, when she forgets that I am QUEEN of the house). You should come visit us in Maine. You could help me keep Maggie in line. Ask your Mom!

Hi Duck Butter http://dachsie.org/ubb/wink.gif

Howdy, Duckbutta,
This here is Wheeler from Arkansas. http://dachsie.org/ubb/cool.gifI have a Catahoula too. Her name is Katy. She is kind of bossy but she beat up the neighbor's dog that tried to get me and mom when we were walking to my Granny's house. If she gets too bad I hide under the dining room table where she can't reach me and grab her when she walks by. I love wire haired girls. those beards are sooo sexy. Come to Arkansas and we'll get Katie to find us a dead cow to roll in.
Hi WWs, Wheeler and Katy,
Duck Butter, Masse and Top Spin are busy so they asked if I would reply . . . I hope that's OK. The Dachsies are snoozin' and Top Spin is on patrol. http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
WWs, are you on a Catahoula board and if so, which one? I'm a little disenchanted with the one I've been in . . . haven't posted for several weeks and no one has noticed (I still visit and send direct emails of encouragement and welcome to the new people). I am finding that they've become quite rude to people who are new to the breed, of late, too. Boards like these oughta be to learn, have fun and help . . . a little disappointing since they weren't always that way. http://dachsie.org/ubb/frown.gif
Top Spin is a Gray Leopard, 1 year old on 5-20 and about 90 pounds. His herding, so far is limited to Dachshunds and hunting to squirrels. He runs, flat out, for most of the day.
Duck Butter's gonna get a little cocky with handsome guys like Wheeler and Owen both giving her attention. http://dachsie.org/ubb/ksmile.gif
Where about in AK? We have some family in Texarkana (TX side).
Take care,
Mark

Small world. We live in Texarkana on the Arkansas side.
I'm not on any Catahoula boards. Didn't know there were any to be honest. A lot of the Catahoula folks are kind of redneck http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif. If you don't hunt hogs every weekend, they think you aren't a real Catahoula person. Katy does work cows some (if its not too hot) but her idea of hog hunting is stealing a pork chop off the kitchen counter. She's a great watchdog, does tricks, keeps the weiners in line and goes with me when I ride the horse to fend off my nasty neighbor's dogs who want to run out and chase me.
Wow, small world indeed. If Char and I ever get down there with the kids maybe we could have a Doxahoula-fest. http://dachsie.org/ubb/dizzy.gif
Yeah, I agree that a lot of the Catahoula owners are "that" way (and show it), while some others are very nice . . . but I'll keep reading the board simply because I do pick up some great information that is unique to the breed. Not many people in Michigan that even know what a Catahoula is . . . the usual response is, "a Catawhata"? http://dachsie.org/ubb/eek.gif Or to show how much they know about him they ask, "so how long have you had your Great Dane"? http://dachsie.org/ubb/dorky.gif Oh well! http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
Nice to find a fellow Doxahoula family on the board! http://dachsie.org/ubb/cool.gif

Topspin, this is Katy. My mother Monday and I want to know if you would like to join our support group for Catahoulas that are forced to live with wiener dogs. If you are ever in Texarkana, come to visit. You can swim in our pond, bark at our cows and we'll find something nice to roll in. http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
Hi Katy,
You are the first Catahoula I've met since leaving my brothers & sisters. And on top of that . . . your a girl! http://dachsie.org/ubb/love.gif Oh boy, now if I only knew what that meant.
I had my mom & dad fooled cuz I weighed 85 pounds a few months back, but when we went to my doctor on Saturday I only weighed 78. Since it got nice outside, here in Michigan, I just run & run all day now. hee-hee They thought I would weigh more. http://dachsie.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Yes, the Dachsies can be a pain, but it's my job to take care of them and the hoomans, too. http://dachsie.org/ubb/blah.gif A support group would be great . . . we need it!
I hope we can come to Texarkana and see you sometime. It sounds like you southern gals really know how to show a guy a real nice time. http://dachsie.org/ubb/ksmile.gif Cows, stuff to roll in, swimming . . . http://dachsie.org/ubb/eek3.gif
Say hi to Wheeler for me and my daddy says to say hi to Monday.

Top Spin, Its me again, Katy the Cowdog, Head of Ranch Security. Cows are big dumb critters (even dumber than weiner dogs http://dachsie.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif made to be barked at by Catahoula dogs. If you don't bark at them they can't figure out where they are supposed to go. Its really fun to chase them around but you have to watch the ones with horns.
Mark, this is Katy's hooman mom, Mary Helen. I have to tell y'all about the last time Katy "worked" cows. We were sorting the yearlings off the cows to take them to the sale. My dad was working the sorting gate and I was running the cows and calves up the chute. Katy decided to "help" by standing in front of the sorting gate barking and biting at the cows as my dad tries to sort them out. Naturally, the cows didn't want to go out the gate with a Catahoula standing there barking at them. My Dad called Katy all kinds of names none of which were Good Dog and started muttering about his gun http://dachsie.org/ubb/angryfire.gif. Katy spent the rest of the morning tied to the truck and has been banned from the corrals while we are penning cattle.

Cows sound fun, but a dachsie would be just as excited by life if there were x-tra bologna on that bread AND cheese.
Let the big doggies do the hard sweaty stuff while we little spoiled dachsies stay under the shade tree, begging for food or rolled over on our backs snoozing away. Silly catahoooooola-la's http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Didn't mean to turn this into a Catahoula board. The dachsies like to bark at the cows to but they do it from the safety and comfort of the living room window. We did have a standard long once that was a pretty good cowdog.

That Owen really is a beautiful boy!! And so fearless, taking on mastiffs, boxers, etc.! Who won the tug?
My old wiener, Doggerel, thought he was a cow dog, but it turned out...not so much. The ex and I, and Doggerel, went to visit the ex's folks, who had retired to a black Angus ranch in Arkansas. At some point the ex's dad decided it was time to move some of the cattle from one pasture to another, so we all went along to watch. As soon as the gate to the pasture was opened, Doggerel took off like a rocket, heading right for those Angus steers and barking his head off. Until one of the larger steers put his head down and began pawing the ground in Doggerel's direction. He did one of those cartoon skid-stops, and came racing back to us at an even greater speed. And no more barking! After that, the closest he got to the cattle was a big roll in a fresh cowpie.
Truly. http://dachsie.org/ubb/sick.gif

Owen, You are sooooo cute! I like a dog who can handle himself. I'm looking for a boyfriend to play with. I'm very cute, black and tan like you, weigh about 12 pounds. I'm an older lady, but age doesn't matter! If my mom was as smart as yours, she would put my picture up here...but my mom ain't too good with puters! Maybe you could get your mom to tell her how to do it and use that photo album thing. Oops! Gotta go for she catch me!!
