I just saw on the news this morning that their are earthquakes under the lava dome in MT ST Helens. :( The scientist say they are watching it, and it might blow, but it will be no where near like the one in 1980(the big eruption). I was here when that happened, that was scary! :faint: They have cancelled hiking permits for the mountain, but have not evacuated anyone. They are supposed to fly over today to see if they can detect Carbon Dioxide or Sulfur(indications that of possible lava eruption). I blame Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne(the hurricanes) apparently Mt. St. Helens thought the east coast was getting WAY too much attention lately! :D

Woah! Mt. St. Helen's is just BEAUTIFUL- for a Florida girl- I was just blown away by how BIG it is. Why's she got to be all cranky- if we COULD, we'd certainly spare a hurricane or two for her. :D
What a year, huh? :(

Good luck, maybe she's just showing her displeasure at all of the attention Florida is getting..and this is just rumbling.
Lots of good luck wishes being sent your way!

To me, that is a cool geologic event. :D Unfortunately, for others, it is a scary event. I used to live across the bay of Naples from Mt. Vesuvius, and every once in awhile, she would throw fireworks. We used to live in a high building on a high hill and would go up to the roof with our chairs and watch.

I have a former student who is up there now... working on his Ph.D. in volcanology! I am sure he is getting really excited. Got to e-mail him and tell him to stay away (like that will help)!

Hmm..hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, floods, famine...we had the insect plague earlier this year...anybody keeping an eye out for four horseman on the horizon???? I'm just joking but heck..what a year we've had!
Seriously tho - with the weather effect we've seen this year - I'm starting to wonder if we're going to end up with 15 feet of snow and -40 all winter!

Great! We already have famine of the 7 plagues. What's next? Locusts?
I think I better that SUV wanted, just in case we get 3 feet of snow! Then I need to move away from the coast! :(

My DH grew up in Tacoma. Father in law still lives there. Made my first trip to God's country last summer and went to see Mt. St. Helen's. WEIRD.... Hope that they don't have a repeat.

My manager was telling us yesterday about his parents anniversary trip to HI when they went to see MT St Helen's. He said that there was just ash and downed ashy trees for miles around. It would definitely be an expience but not right now!!!

I guess she was just mad, just a lot of steam and a little bit of ash came out of Mt. St. Helens today. No one knows if she will erupt again or if it will be bigger, smaller, etc. No one seems too worried though, we survived May 18,1980 we can survive this. :)

The word this PM is that the rating has been changed to a level 3. They figure it will erupt sometime within the next 24 hours. They have evacuated the visitors center and closed all trails and other means to the mountain. They still don't anticipate anything near what we had in 1980. It shouldn't be too bad. :yikes:
