Watch out.
Anything stuffed and Justice looks for the weak points. He will rip off the eyes, nose, then ears. Anything that sticks out.
I don't leave stuffed toys with him unsupervised.

I always say to him "you can't have anything nice around here can you?"
So I stick to tough plastic, and nylabone, I am a big believer in Nylabone b/c one bone he has had for over three months, and he has barely gotten the ends chewed off. I think it irritates him, it is bacon flavored.

Time for the stuffingless stuffed toys! Check out the store bone above and I think they are called Dr. Noy's now.

Yep, stuffed toys and Doxie's don't mix well....we lucked out I found some really cheap ones at Walmart (around $3.00 CDN), which surprisingly last for about a month...but there are times I've paid over $10.00 for a toy and it was ripped apart in literally 3 minutes! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH We also stick to Nylabones and Kong's for our chewing entertainment.

My pups must be abnormal... there is a big basket of stuffed toys in the living room that they play with all the time but they have never destroyed any of them... they just like to hear them squeak. As soon as I walk in the door Merry picks up a toy and runs around the house squeaking it. Bart even has about 4 favorites that he guards... and Badger takes great pleasure in stealing :D .

Nylabones however, don't stand a chance... they grind them down in no time flat.

I've heard that happens with dachsies but Tia and RB Jesse always played with Squeaky toys, I have some here that are 10 years old! i guess my Dachsies are just weird:D I'm glad they take good care of their toys, I'm sure I won't be so lucky one day though.

Yep- Dr. Noy's are great, if you pick carefully (I have an eye/ear/hand/nose chewer-offer, too). Sometimes Petsmart carries very simple fleece toys with no attachements or stuffing- just a big fleece shape. They've been one of the longest lasting toys ever.

I have no problem buying toys I know will be destroyed if they're not outrageously expensive. They just have so much fun de-stuffing. :)

I don't like edible Nylabones much- but I do keep the durable flavored bones around, and they get used. Kongs only get played with if they're stuffed- but, along with the nylabones, that's all my guys get unsupervised. With a three pack, there are plenty of tails, paws and ears around to play with, anyway. :D

are not really destuffers. Just the occasional stuffy bites the dust. Now we have Zoe (Zekette) and she is a stuffy killer. We have to keep a close eye on her, she'll destuff a toy in no time flat. Missy keeps looking at me like Mom make her stop it.

Hmmm I have bought so many stuffed toys and my 'kids' don't pay any attention to them. They do love greenies and rawhides. :)

Bogart used to be a terror with stuffies. The first thing he'd do is rip their face off! It's hard to believe he turned out to be such a sweetie.

I bought Harley a stuffed lobster last Thursday night. He ate the eyes off in 5 minutes. I tried to get most of the pieces but I knew he swallowed some. Well, I didn't have to worry there was white, black and red fuzz in his poop the next morning. I was shocked that it wasn't...ummm, digested better. :flush: :flush:

Charlie has ripped apart a few toys, but mostly he just plays with them.

Nothing like the stuffing all ripped out and all over the floor! He goes for the nose and eyes as well! I have even made an evening out of re-stuffing and sewing them all back up! :banghead:

Speaking of that...he has a tennis ball he's tearing the fuzz off of! Gotta go clean up!

There are some new stuffed toys out that are geared to the soft, medium, and hard chewers and destroyers. I wonder if that is a gimmick or if anyone has tried them?

Schnitzel's Mom

Schnitzel is a pro. I see so many cute toys, but know we can't get her any. Not only will she destuff them as soon as she can, she will systematically pull all the fuzzy stuff off the toys, too. The cute cow we had was bald before she could figure out how to behead it!

We found this line at Petco: http://www.fatcats.com/html_site/dogs.shtml

They are smaller at Petco, perfect for a mini-dachsie (called Doggy Hoots online). We have the mean kitty (the small version), the crackler bird and the crackler skunk. Now, we can play fetch, she has squeaky toys (hates plastic ones) and still has stuffy toys. :D They also aren't as expensive as I've seen online. And she hasn't managed to kill them! :bounce:

I can't buy any stuffies with tails. My Haylee has this idea that she is the only one allowed to have a tail. She won't destroy stuff but god forbid it has a tail cuz it will be gone in no time flat!

Tasha's Mom

Yup, Tasha's another tail ripper. We bought her a Dr. Noy's squirrel (she loves chasing the real thing so much!) and instead of tossing it around she sits and tears the fur from the tail. And she's a fuzz ripper too--any plush toys will have their fuzz ripped off--and we had to get rid of the round sherpa lined bed she came with when we adopted her as she was tearing out all of the fuzz.

BTW, those Dr Noy's without stuffing look a bit odd. The squirrel is so flat that hoo-daddy has taken to calling it her roadkill toy.

i have bought the medium and tough rated stuffed toys and yup it's a gimmick. at least as far as dachshunds are concerned. mine are so tenaciuos, they will work on destuffing for an hour at a time. i like the dr. noys because you can replace the squeaker and they are small so there is not that much of a mess when they get torn open. the only intact toy in this house is crickets camel.
