Many of you know that my roommate has a Great Dane. She always draws comments like, "Is that a horse?" or "You got a saddle for that thing?" Well today we thought we'd answer that question. We were going through the garage looking for stuff to sell and could not resist these pics. Rest assured no Danes were harmed in the making of these - Amy is tall enough to stand above Brooklyn!!

Years ago when I had my first rescue dog a fawn greyhound that was 6 years old and 80 lbs. We had taken pics of him with a saddle too. Oh precious memories. He got along so well with my doxies and was just the sweetest dog. Thanks for the memories! :coolcool:

Brooklyn actually looks HAPPY to have that on his back! How funny! I am amazed at the sheer height of Great Danes. Another breed I am amazed at is the Mastiff. I saw a 10 week old puppy next to his sire and it was just :faint: to see how BIG they get. The daddy mastiff's head was bigger than my sons whole body (at the time son was 1 year).

That saddle really shows how big he is. I mean really it's meant for a horse and doesn't dwarf him at all. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Oh wow...I have to show that to the neighbours - they have a Harlequin Dane and hear comments like this all the time!

Fab shots!! My first boss had 3 danes. Scared the crap out of me the first time I met them. He neglected to tell me about them and all of a sudden there are 3 of the biggest heads I had ever seen staring at me through the store front door late one night! Gorgeous doxie by proxie!

Yep, they can be quite big. My doberman was in love with one when he was going through his puberty. He licked her face, etc and she was almost twice as tall as him!

When I was little (maybe 4?) my maternal grandparents had Brownie, the dog. If Brownie was not a Scottish deerhound, he sure looked like one, and was as tall! I used to ride him bareback - for a few feet, anyway! Ah, what memories! Thanks for sharing! Julia B.

That looks cute. :)

Either your roommate is very tall, or Brooklyn is very small for a great dane. The great danes that I've met have been much taller. I am kinda short, though. I remember trying to introduce Bunny to a very nice great dane, but Bunny was so scared, she tried her best to get on my shoulder (which didn't bring her very far from the dane), then tried to get on my back. :(

I swear that dane was able to lick me in the face without stretching much, and while I was standing normally! :yikes: :faint:

I love Danes- I've had a brindle show up at our dogpark a few times- WHAT a HUGE dog! I barely have to lean over to be nose to nose with him!

Oh, I LOVE big dogs. And Brooklyn is just gorgeous. You know? With that merling, she'd fit RIGHT in with my crew... :luvlove:

Amy is about 5'9", but yes Brooklyn is small for a Dane. Only about 110 pounds, and not as tall as they can be. When we see other Danes at the dog park, she's usually the smallest. I love her merling too and REALLY wanted to get a dapple dachshund to match her!

Fatty pants is up to 115 lbs as of today at 18 months of age! :faint:
She is pure muscle (plus a little belly). I read somewhere online that originally the great danes name translated into "Big Danish", which Brooklyn definately is. She is seriously the funniest dog I've ever owned.

I love great danes! My friend in 1st grade had one and I remember staying over at her house and laying on the living room floor watching cartoons on saturday morning with the great dane laying between us. He was the sweetest dog! :)

What FUN pictures! My daughter will have to see those when she gets up (she's still sleeping off strep)! Thanks for sharing!

Good luck on finding a Dachsie to match her; THOSE would be pics I'd love to see, too! I know the size issue can work out... I previously had a coworker who showed dogs and had 3 -- two Irish Wolfhounds and a mini Dachshund, and they all lived harmoniously. Wanna guess which one ruled the roost? :D
