We use a Harness on Charlie for our walks. If it's just a short walk to the kids bus stop we'll just use his collar.

I find the harness fits much better and you don't feel like you're pulling on their little necks.

How about you?

I have clipped the leash on Oliver's collar to truck him out to the car but that's it. I walked him that way once and said never again..he pulls like crazy so the needs a halter.

I voted other since we use both. He has a collar with his tags, I will clip the leash on it for potty trips or trips to the bus stop. I try and use his harness for walks around the block. I find he tugs less with the collar than the harness, the harness seems to give him more lunging power since it attaches over his chest and he is quite muscular there. If we are away from home, I tend to clip the leash to both the harness and the collar at the same time. We've had instances of him lunging out of the harness so I don't trust him with it in an unfamiliar location.

I have been using a collar lately because Harley outgrew his Harness. I need to get him a new Hug-a-dox very soon. Daddy thought it looked too cute on him and keeps bugging me that we need a new one.

Schnitzel has always used a harness. She has gotten better about pulling, but still think it's better for her. We bought a hug-a-dox and people are always commenting about it. They want to know where to get one for their dogs. And we only have the black mesh one. :) We've clipped her nametag, license, and rabies tag onto the harness. Makes for a noisy walk.

I have noticed that since using the hug-a-dox, she has lost hair on her chest. There's no redness, and it could be a coincidence.

I voted other as we use both too. For walks and general outtings we use the harness. For agility, earthdog and field trials the collar is easier to deal with. In the competitions they cannot have anything on at all.

I think you can check more than one box if I set up the poll correctly... :D

We use three different ones, a harness for walking, a regular collar that holds their tags, and their electronic collars for outside. They know what each one is for too! They sit whenever I say "collar" and connect whichever it is. They go to the deck door when they see the outside collar, and to the front door when they see the walk collar. Good furkids!

I use the hug-a-dog harnesses for mine. They're easier on their backs and necks than a collar and they really seem to like them. Besides they look so cute!

I voted for harness since it is what Pippit usually wears. If we are going to the car, I'll just use his collar and when we go on long hikes I use his Hug-A-Dox(don't want to lose him in the middle of the woods. He might terrorize the bears)

I use the harness if we are going to the Park and they are on the flexilead.. and used to use them with the car seat... but I use collars now when training or at agility or some place where I don't have them on the flexilead. In the house they run neked.. no collars in the house.

We use both, but think I messed up because I thought you could only vote for one... sorry. :circle:

Ivy has her Hug A Dox halter and I want to get some for the others. But the rest are all collars. Yesterday I had them at the bark park and Con was bad he nipped at a Cocker puppy and broke the skin they wanted to see his tags. But I had changed collars after baths with out the tags. So had to call the vet so the guy was reassured he didn't have rabies. I felt bad but I did have Con on lead and the puppy came back after him to play. He had already told him to back off.
I like the halter that someone had posted not to long ago. It was a little less money than the Hug A Dox. Right now pennies count for me.
Here we have a simple question and I am being gabby fingers tonight. :bigsquar:

I put "other" too as we use both. López walks better on a harness so if he's not going to the big park (where we let him run loose) we prefer the harness. However his tags are on his collar, so I often put up with the pulling if it's just for a short walk to the breadshop or something, because I prefer him to be tagged.

We usually use collars for our pups since it's only a couple hundred feet to their "drop zone" and because it's so much easier and quicker for our 9 year old daughter to walk them. However if we're going for a longer walk, I'll consider using a Gentle Leader on Ripley and Kaze, though we don't use them enough that they don't hate it (bad us, I know...) Kaze came with a harness when we adopted him, but he actually seems to prefer the collar rather than the rigamarole of putting the harness on.

Rusty uses either a collar or a hug a dox. Daisy has both neck and back problems plus she likes to pull so it is always a harness or hug a dox for her.

are hug a dox kids. Everyone has their own. Missy is black with purple trim with a purple flexie lead to match, Zeke's is with with red trim and a red flexi lead, Annie's is white with pink trim and a grey flexi lead (can't find a pink flexi lead).

Zoe is wearing Zeke's red white and blue hug a dox and Smokey is wearing Missy's old purple hug a dox.

So even my foster kids have hug a dox. They all stand and wait to have theirs put on.

We had a harness but it wasn't as fast for getting Tasha's head away from garbage or food on the street. So we switched the a martingale collar for training and have stayed with that. When she refuses to walk I'd rather have a harness for gentle pulling, but short quick pulls on the martingale also work. Its only during boat horn induced panic attacks (we're a few blocks from those cruise ships and the QM2 sure has a loud horn!) where she tries to run home that I really would prefer a harness as she chokes herself on the collar. I'm going to get a hug-a-dox to try it out.

After Otis's surgery, the surgeon said to be sure to use a harness - forever. Otis does have a Christmas collar, just to be stylish and festive, but no walks with it on.

For walking, Tia wears a harness. My dogs always wear a collar with ID on it (either in the form of tags or embroidery) aswell, but I don't walk any of them on their tag collars.

We use both--the collar has his tags on it, but he has twisted around and backed out of his collar once on a potty trip so we use the harness mostly for going outside--if there was a place to hang the tags on the harness we would use that all the time, I wonder if they make one like that?

For walks Julian and Misty wear harnesses. For a quick potty on the front lawn, I just clip leash to collars for safety sake.

Graci wears a collar, but when I take her on walks, I use the harness. I still need to get her a hug a dox!

Mocha wears a hug a dog harness, but she also likes wearing a bandana so she wears both. She wears collars but the jingling of the tags drives me nuts sometimes and I will take it off.

Harnesses for walks and car rides. Collars are just for I.D. tags. Molly has eaten through 4 collars in a year. :pullhair: We must keep backups.

Buster and Jake have collars for when we go on walks. But normally they're nakie! They also have bandanas that they wear sometimes.

I use collars for now but am hoping to start using harnesses as soon as I can afford them!

We also use both. Charlie, Tammy & Lil always have their collars on with their ID in the event that they ever get lost. We use harnesses when we take them places to ease the strain on their backs - plus, they look darn cute! :D

I currently use collars on my two doxies. I have been checking out harness lately, due to my concern that my poor doggers might be strangled :O by their collars (did I mention that they tug like crazy on the leash? ...chasing every walking, crawling, swirling and/or flying object???).

For those who have long-haired dachsunds who wear harnesses .... Do your doggers wear their harness all the time? ... or just when they're going for a walk? and ... do the harnesses mess up their long coats?
