Mary is here and safe. She came hopping up my steps chipper as a new pup on a spring day. She is eating well and taking her meds with only a little prodding (with a meat fork). Her friend Sue bought her a little stuffed dog that she has named LJ. She currently has a death grip on him and wont let go. She is comfortable and doing very well. Her biggest concern last night was that I didn't update you all. Keep the rays coming....for both of us. ;-)

Make sure you take good care of her. If she doens't want to take her medicine maybe you can hide it in a bowl of ice cream or a piece of candy so she doesn't know it's there.
Make sure you give her lots of kisses and control of the remote and she will be a happy puppy!

Take care fo my girl and get her home soonest. Noah and the other miss their Mom.
Thanks for the update Ken. Sending mega healing :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: to Mary and of course :hug2: to you for being such a wonderful care giver. You are the best! :circle:

Thanks for the update, Ken. Be sure to keep her taking her meds. Hiding them in a bowl of ice cream or piece of good chocolate candy is a great idea. She could probably be consoled with some cheesecake also.
Keeping the rayz coming. :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: :rayz:

To get Mary to take her meds I've just been popping them in her mouth, holding it shut and popping her on the nose till she swallows. I've seen her do it many times with her kids. We'll see if good for the goose is good for the gander.
Mary sends her thanks and love. She is overwhelmed by your support. I see now that her love of dogs is not the only reason she treasures this board.
UPDATE: Good for the goose is in fact lousey for the gander. I think the gander dislocated my right arm. J/K

And rayz for the caregiver to stay sane. :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: As far as meds, I suggest a wine and cheese plate - give her the meds in cheese (the girls love it) and YOU drink the wine. Ken's Log Day 3
Everything is going well. Mary's need for pain medication is slowly dropping while mine continues to rise. Mary is alert and starting to get restless while I long for sleep.
I continue to be amazed at how often one small woman can go to the bathroom. I began keeping records of how much she drank vs how often she went. My calculations show she should have dehydrated hours ago. Either she has a garden hose hidden somewhere in my apartment she is continually drinking from or she has found a way to suck moisture from the very air. I am keeping my distance should it be the latter. I saw an episode of Star Trek very like this...it didn't end well for the guy in the red shirt. But then again, no episode ends well for ensign [insert name here].
We are getting along fine for the most part. It was dicey there for a moment. She asked casually what I was thinking. How could I reply that I was thinking of ax murder? I will call my doctor and ask about anti-depressants.

Thanks Ken for keeping us updated and not loosing your sense of humor! We are all missing Mary very much.
Now, on the pain meds issue. I remember after I had Natasha I was kept in the hospital for 4 days and they would ask me to rate the pain on the scale from 1-10 with 10 being the highest. Well, after a while I figured out that meds are given only if you say it was over 6 or 7. Hmmm, being taken care of, away from house chores, the kid taken care of and some strong meds... What do you think my answer was every time they asked me for the scale rate? :D
I am not really that bad. ;) I don't even drink any alcohol.

My bf wonders the same thing - how such a little thing like me can pee so much! Last night we had a few drinks at dinner. I was in the bathroom twice. He just shakes his head and just goes with it.
Hope you are giving her all the attention she needs!
PS I did hear you giving her any steak and lobster yet???

Name: Mud Day: Unknown
It seems Mary is feeling much better. She was feeling well enough to get up and read this board yesterday. While she still can't move quickly she is very accurate when throwing her crutches at me. The doctor says there should be no lingering problems for me and the odds of me living a normal life with a crutch stuck in my backside are very good. But enough about me.
Mary went to see her surgeon today. He commented this was the best post surgery exam he has ever seen. Her procedure is a textbook case of how it should go. I suggested it was because of her excellent care since her surgery. My comment was ignored. The doctor removed all the dressings and examined the wound. He was very sensitive to Mary's needs. He grabbed a towel and rubbed her leg hard to scratch it all over. Had she a tail it would have been wagging. We reviewed the x-rays and everything looks great. She is in very high sprits though a little tired.
We are back at my place and she is sleeping happily. It seems in a short amount of time she will be dancing as well as ever...while I will have to learn to live life as a jelly-apple.

So glad to know she is doing well. As for you, well, all I can suggest is for you to sit quietly in the corner and come running when she calls you. This, however, could cause her to become a bit hoarse so perhaps you can purchase a nice little bell for her to use? Remember, keep your eyes down and your posture non aggressive. If she yells, just roll over onto your back. If she comes back on the board w/great reviews of your after surgery care, maybe she can start "loaning" you out to some of her friends? ;) Keep the updates coming. We miss her. :hugs1:

Just bring her lots of Guiness and she will be happy! As for the crutch in your backside, please be careful removing it. You might want to Guiness for that too!
Glad her surgery was a success!

Oh, this is wonderful news! Um... I mean, the part about Mary!! :D
Now you.... hmmm.... I don't know HOW to cure jelly-appleness (which I assume, is similar to candy-appleness?). But I definitely suggest you take care of it ASAP- by the end of the month, all sorts of short, spooky creatures will be hitting the streets... LOOKING FOR SWEETS!!! You don't want to be carted off by a hungry pack of trick-or-treaters, do ya?

She has had some minor setbacks but is coming along. She had a couple of spills and landed on the foot which wasent good and her caretaker (aka: MUD) is looking after her. She is getting on the computer as I got funnies from her this week also. I will try to call her tonight and check in on her.
BTW when Mary dosent feel good she hibernates like I do, so I have complete confidence she'll be back in action soon.
Will update you after I talk to her.

The foot.....saw an orthopaedic surgeon yesterday who finally "listened" to me and is setting up PT and such for me. He said my foot is still very inflamed and upped my pain meds and anti-spasmodic....thank god. feels like I have a dry socket in my foot! I'm drugged now and so I'm checking my email....tons of stuff and many people to respond to. I just haven't been to the board, as when I'm in pain I tend to stay in my cave and heal. I miss you all too!!!!!! Ken and I will be at the party...can't wait, actually!!!!!!! Anyway, thank everyone for asking about me. I just tend to hole up when I'm not feeling well. Big hugs and I'll talk to you all later. I'll try to make it to the board this week-end for an update.......hugs....big ones!
